    Benton Community is seeking a certified, passionate, relationship driven, motivated, and student-first educator to serve students as a vocal music teacher. We are currently seeking candidates for the following position:

  • MS/HS Vocal Music Teacher

    Overview:

    We are seeking a passionate and dedicated Vocal Music Teacher to join our dynamic team at Benton Community Middle and High School. The ideal candidate will have experience working with students in seventh through twelfth grades, with a focus on cultivating musical excellence, fostering creativity, and instilling a love for vocal music. This position will involve teaching or assisting with various vocal ensembles, including seventh and eighth-grade women's choir, high school women's choir, middle school show choir, and seventh-grade general music. Additionally, the role will encompass administrative tasks, assisting with auditions and competitions, fundraising activities, and overall program supervision. In this position, you will work closely with one other full-time employee in the vocal music department.

    Responsibilities:

  • Conducting and Directing Vocal Ensembles:

  • Lead rehearsals and performances for seventh and eighth-grade women's choir, high school women's choir, and middle school show choir.

  • Develop and implement a curriculum aligned with state standards to enhance vocal skills, music literacy, and ensemble performance.

  • Teaching General Music:

  • Deliver engaging lessons for seventh-grade general music classes, covering fundamental music concepts, history, and appreciation.

  • Assisting with High School Vocal Music Program:

  • Collaborate with the high school vocal music director to prepare students for All-State auditions, state solo competitions, and other performance opportunities.

  • Support the organization and hosting of a show choir competition, coordinating logistics and ensuring a smooth event.

  • Assistant Directing High School Show Choirs: (one preparatory, one varsity)

  • Assisting with the rehearsal process, choreography, and other musical elements for two high school show choirs.

  • Prepare students for competitions, performances, and community events. Travel with the high school show choirs to various competitions.

  • Administrative and Supervisory Duties:

  • Assist with administrative tasks related to the 7-12 vocal music program, including scheduling, budgeting, and communication with students, parents, and staff.

  • Provide general supervision and support to students during rehearsals, performances, and other program-related activities.

  • Fundraising Activities:

  • Develop and implement fundraising initiatives to support the vocal music program's financial needs.

    Availability for some Nights and Weekends:

  • Be available for some evening and weekend rehearsals, performances, competitions, and other events as required by the program schedule.

    Qualifications:

  • Valid teaching certification/license in Music Education.

  • Strong conducting and vocal coaching skills.

  • Proficiency in music theory, sight-reading, and vocal pedagogy.

  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.

  • Excellent communication, organizational, and leadership abilities.

  • Commitment to fostering a positive and inclusive learning environment for all students.

  • Piano skills are encouraged but not required.
