Black & McDonald Limited Health, Safety & Environment (HSE) Advisor in Vancouver, British Columbia

The Health, Safety & Environment (HSE) Advisor is based in Vancouver, BC and reports directly to the HSE Manager.
The HSE Advisor supports the HSE Manager in ensuring health, safety, and environmental compliance across the organization. The HSE Advisor will provide training and support to staff while preparing reports on HSE performance. They will evaluate, monitor health and safety hazards and control risks in the workplace. The HSE Advisor is responsible for applying Black & McDonald's HSE Management System in a variety of work settings to ensure compliance with company, client, and government policies, procedures, acts and regulations. This position will demonstrate leadership to drive safety as a core value. Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
Provide HSE leadership, guidance, and support to assigned regional site locations
Assist and support their Regional HSE Manager in the development and implementation of HSE policies and procedures, in accordance with Black & McDonald and regulatory requirements
Conduct inspections of job sites, facilities, and equipment for compliance with general and specific safety standards; follow-up on any non-compliance issues and take appropriate action to remedy
Conduct incident investigations, evaluations of subcontractors HSE management system and application, and identify/remedy non-compliance issues
Prepare and present reports of recommendations for changes as necessary
Oversee incident investigation and reviews as required
Support modified duty programs, as required
Support the implementation of the Certificate of Recognition Program (COR), for the Region
Share feedback, observations and reporting details related to regional HSE achievements and opportunities with regional managers and people leaders
Ensure emergency response plans are in place and aligned with local regulatory, regional, divisional and corporate requirements
Participate in regional planning as required
Maintain current knowledge of industry trends and practices regarding health, safety and environment
Conduct and/or support the annual HSE Management System Audit
Assist in developing and reviewing project Safety plans and specific job hazard assessment and procedures
Management and maintenance of third-party pre-qualification systems (e.g. ISN, Avetta etc.)
Develop and conduct training programs as required

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
A bachelor's degree or college diploma in a discipline such as Occupational Health & Safety or Environmental Studies would be preferred
CSO or NCSO, Construction Safety Officer/National Construction Safety Officer preferred
Certified Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) or Certified Health and Safety Consultant (CHSC) is preferred
Training Instructor qualification in one or more HSE training courses (e.g. Working at Heights, Confined Space, etc.) is preferred
WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
5+ years of HSE work experience within a related industry (e.g. construction, FMO, service, utility)
3-5 years of experience as an HSE Advisor
Field experience on long-duration / complex and/or multi-trade projects is an asset
Experience within a unionized environment is an asset
SKILLS, ABILITIES, AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS
Must be able to travel to various sites across BC (including Vancouver Island and BC Interior) as required
Must be able to work independently with minimal supervision
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Familiar with Microsoft Office 365 software
Familiar with HSE Software programs (eCompliance) an asset
Ability to facilitate programs and present to groups
Working knowledge of Federal, Provincial, and Local safety and environmental regulations and programs
Must be able to successfully clear a Criminal Background check.
Must have a valid Class 5 (or higher) BC Driver's License and clean Drivers' Abstract
The expected salary range for this role is between $80,000 and $96,000. The starting salary will be based on several factors such as the successful candidate's qualifications, including but not limited to education and experience. Salary is one component of Black & McDonald's total rewards package.
