PeaceHealth is seeking a Prog Mgr Caregiver Safety for a Full Time, 1.00 FTE, Day position. The general salary range for this job opening at PeaceHealth is $36.55 – $54.83. The actual hiring rate is dependent upon several factors, including but not limited to, the job/position responsibilities, location, terms of the applicable collective bargaining agreement, education, training, work experience, seniority, work performance, etc.

Job Summary

Responsible for the development, implementation, coordination, training, maintenance, continuous evaluation, and management of the caregiver safety programs such as safe patient handling, workplace violence prevention and other similar programs aimed at reducing injuries and lost workdays. Works collaboratively with network operational leaders/executives and PeaceHealth healthcare workers to coordinate and implement the programs. Ensures the organization complies with all regulations as required by state and federal laws. Coordinates and provides assistance to Workplace Violence Prevention, Safe Patient Handling and Safety committees throughout assigned network to focus on producing improvements in the system standardization, efficiency and effectiveness of safe patient handling and other caregiver safety programs and initiatives. Assists with regulatory compliance including OSHA and other accrediting bodies.

Essential Functions

  • Leads the development, implementation, training, and support of the caregiver injury prevention programs within assigned network.

  • Develops plans in alignment with PeaceHealth strategies and priorities by negotiating project scope, designing interventions and process change, and coordinating work plans and completion of deliverables.

  • Takes responsibility for evaluation of patient lift and fall equipment and usage, to identify areas where outcomes/workflow can be improved. Collaborates with nursing leadership/staffing and other stakeholders in equipment selection.

  • Provides coordination and assistance to Workplace Violence Prevention and Safety Committees throughout the assigned network.

  • Leads work efforts to successfully plan and execute projects/programs ensuring alignment with the patient safety priorities of PeaceHealth. Supports caregiver and patient safety projects, including construction projects.

  • Presents to, educates, and motivates all levels of nursing and hospital staff, including executive level, to facilitate the cultural transformation of the organization to reduction of caregiver injuries.

  • Tracks, trends and analyzes injury data to create, enhance, develop and maintain programs. Utilizes ongoing data collection to demonstrate program’s progress, impact on caregiver injuries and training needs.

  • Participates in developing policy and procedures, comprehensive data collection, tracking, and reporting used to demonstrate outcomes.

  • Identifies problem areas for monitoring and evaluation, active in analyzing findings and changing practice based on quality improvement outcomes.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelor's Degree in Occupational Health and Safety or clinical discipline, related area, or the equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Associate Degree Preferred: Registered nurse preferred.

  • Bachelor of Science in Physical Therapist, Physical Therapist Assistant, Occupational Therapist preferred.

  • Technical Program Certified Nurses Assistant or Medical Assistant preferred.

Experience

  • Minimum of 5 years related experience in safety, ergonomics, occupational health and/or patient injury prevention.

  • Experience with managing complex programs and projects, specifically with a focus on quality improvement activities, and demonstrated successful completion of quality improvement projects with desired outcomes.

Credentials

  • Certified Professional Ergonomist preferred.

  • Certified Athletic Trainer preferred.

  • If RN or therapist, valid state license.

Skills

  • Ability to engage and work well with leadership and clinical staff on improvement work around caregiver safety initiatives.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Strong presentation and speaking skills.

  • Ability to lead and inspire individual safety leaders and team.

  • Exceptional interpersonal skills to coach and mentor individuals and/or to lead, facilitate, and support safety initiatives within and beyond the organization.

  • Able to adjust quickly to needs and demands of the safety programs and initiatives.

  • Strong organizational and analytical skills.

  • Conflict management and group facilitation skills.

  • Ability to coordinate multiple priorities, projects and display flexibility in a fast paced and changing work environment.

  • Proficiency with MS Project, Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Visio required and competency with other project management software preferred.

  • Ability to frequently travel to other PeaceHealth hospitals and clinics.

Department / Location Specific Notes

Position will require occasional travel to PeaceHealth hospitals and clinics.

Working Conditions

  • Consistently operates computer and other office equipment.

  • Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.

  • Sedentary work.

  • Predominantly operates in an office environment.

  • Some time spent on site in medical/hospital setting.

  • Ability to communicate and exchange accurate information.

  • The worker is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading.
