Neil Jones Food Company Senior Buyer in Vancouver, Washington

The Neil Jones Food Company is an industry leader, processing superior quality fresh-packed, vine-ripened California tomatoes and Pacific Northwest fruit. Headquartered in Vancouver, Washington, NJFC has been providing our nation's discerning foodservice, retail, industrial and institutional customers with the finest quality canned and pouched products for over 50 years. NJFC operates three production facilities: Northwest Packing in Vancouver, WA.; San Benito Foods, in Hollister, CA; and Toma-Tek in Firebaugh, CA.

 

We are looking for a Senior Buyer to be responsible for procuring goods and services at the most favorable terms for assigned categories for a multi-facility food manufacturing organization with consideration to quality, service, and cost. This role will be responsible for providing advice and training to less experienced team members at our corporate headquarters in Vancouver, WA.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Works closely with other departments including Quality Assurance, Production, and Shipping and Warehousing to find solutions to complex procurement issues, ensure inventories are minimized, plant needs are met on time and records are accurate.
  • Works collaboratively with functional experts to identify and drive the most appropriate cost solution.
  • Makes vendor recommendations by qualifying vendors and evaluating bids; negotiates pricing.
  • Leads plant effort to support company-wide purchasing strategies.
  • Ensures inventory levels are appropriate for the business requirements.   Proactively ensures adequate and timely delivery of requirements to match demand.

     

Requirements:

  • Bachelor of Science / Arts or equivalent industry experience preferred; or any equivalent combination of training, education and experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the key responsibilities of this position. Professional certification preferred, (ISM or APICS certification).
  • 5 years' broad-based sourcing and procurement experience (commodities, capital, MRO or other services and 3 years in food industry or manufacturing experience.
  • Proficient skill in the use of Microsoft Office applications, particularly Word and Excel, strong knowledge of Requests for Quotes (RFQ)/ Request for Proposals (RFP) process, and knowledge of Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP), Master Production Schedule (MPS) and Manufacturing Resource Planning (MRP) systems (PeopleSoft preferred).
  • Ability to shape complex data into meaningful operational analysis and to effectively advise senior management on financial and business strategy. 
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment drug test, background check including employment and educational verification, credit screen, and to work extended schedule during the fresh pack season, typically July to early October.

  • The salary range is $82,000 - $94,900, based on experience and qualifications.
