GE Vernova Substation Protection Design Engineer in Villeurbanne, France

The Substation Protection Design Engineer will lead a geographically diverse team of designers, sub-contractors, engineers and project teams working on protection and control schematics and substation equipment.

The role will offer the possibility to have a high-level overview of design and interface with various teams throughout the project cycle. You will be working on major projects across the UK, designing systems to be installed for onshore and offshore substation.

Job Description

As a Substation Protection Design Engineer, you will be the technical guarantor of the proper performance of design works conditions in your field of activity, in matter of committed design budget (man days), deadline and Quality, in line with Customer expectation, while promoting ease of installation, operation and maintenance of the system.

Responsibilities:

  • Produce high level specifications for control, protection and SCADA systems.

  • Design of HV protection and control systems.

  • Production of AC and DC schematic drawings, cable block diagrams, cable and termination schedules

  • Oversee junior engineers and CAD specialists to develop designs in E-plan and other engineering software packages.

  • Be responsible for ensuring the designs are safe and adhere to the required electrical standards.

  • You will be required to define the protection and control equipment specifications and bills of material, to ensure the design are accurately costed.

  • Develop designs suitable for 132kv, 275, 400kv, offshore transmission and larger transmission grid systems.

  • Work with other disciplines and subcontractors to ensure designs are compliant to customer expectations and deliverables.

Desired Skills and Experience:

  • HNC, Degree or master’s in electrical engineering or related subject.

  • Demonstrable years of experience in secondary electrical substation design

  • Strong knowledge and understanding of SCADA, protection and/or control equipment and systems for substation projects.

  • Demonstrable design experience with one of the following: electricity transmission, distribution, transport or industrial Substations.

  • Experience or interest to move into renewable energy projects.

  • Previous experience working on UK projects.
