Ford Motor Company Design Operations Specialist in China

As the Design Operations Specialist, you will support the designer organization with high-quality design, methods, processes, and culture. You will support the development of the business processes around our design teams with the goal of making our creative teams successful. You’ll work cross-functionally and collaborate with managers, designers and engineering teams to ensure resources are available to make our design teams successful. You will lead or support various initiatives to ensure the design team to operate as efficient and effective as possible.

You are also a master planner and a flexible project manager to lead one or more projects, dependent on project scale and complexity, to ensure high quality and timely project delivery for various vehicle programs. You’ll work cross-functionally and collaborate with vehicle program teams, designers, external suppliers and engineering teams to plan projects, define milestones, assess risks, manage data and help projects meet deadlines and deliverables. You will also support project-related communications to cross-functional team members, leaderships, management reviews and other stakeholders.

  • Support the financial management and processes for the design operation team

  • Support the yearly budget plan and review for the programs that the organization plan to deliver, including purchase service, capital, materials, and fixed costs.

  • Liaison and support other company’s processes during project execution when applicable, including resource planning process, purchasing process, internal control process etc.

  • Proactively look for efficiencies within the organization and drive those efficiencies into cost savings.

  • Work with technology specialist, when applicable, to procure the tools and resources necessary to make the organization successful

  • Develop, share, and provide best practices in business operations across the team.

  • Support to identify, review and assess HMI, UE, UI suppliers to help establish mature supply base for the company

  • Lead HMI delivery project end-to-end throughout vehicle program till , acting as key bridge interfacing vehicle program team, development team and supplier etc.

  • Develop and align project delivery timing to ensure high quality and timely HMI production delivery through discussion and alignment with designer, developer and other key stakeholders

  • Develop and prepare SOW where external suppliers are required for project delivery

  • Initiate and propose the HMI project scope considering the customer experiences, competitive environment and program timing and resources constrains

  • Assess project scope and estimate required efforts and timing and identify external supplier involvement if required

  • Well document and maintain project related information including project scope, affected vehicle program, project timing etc.

  • Prepare and co-ordinate management reviews and prepare presentation materials accordingly by working with designers, program teams etc.

Proactively assess project risk and resolve issues or ask for escalations before they become larger problems

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.

  • 35 years’ experience work in business operations, familiar with finance, or product development and accounting terms.

  • Excellent project management skills: efficient, organized and collaborative; able to keep track of multiple streams of work and accomplish work through others.

  • Experience managing budgets, developing process efficiencies, managing issues/risks, establishing communication plans and stakeholder management.

  • Design acumen: ability to understand how creative professionals work, their needs and mindset, and also to think creatively with high foresight.

  • Experience with supplier management and negotiations.

  • Understanding of design and development processes. Experience working with financial systems, designers and developers.

  • Ability to translate complex ideas and express them in concise, simple to understand ways.

  • Experience working on multiple projects simultaneously while meeting deadlines with changing priorities.

  • Strong interpersonal skills as well as cross-functional team leadership and strategic planning.

  • Results oriented person with a proven track record of on-time project/program delivery for large, cross-functional projects with global stakeholders.
