Position Overview

As a Business Intelligence Engineer you will be leading the charge in developing data modeling strategies and design decisions. You will work with a wide range of data technologies (e.g. Redshift, Lambda, Quicksight and Tableau) and stay up to date on emerging technologies, investigating and implementing where appropriate.

This role requires an individual with proficiency in statistical and analytical abilities, deep knowledge of business intelligence solutions, and the ability to work with technology and business teams. The successful candidate will have passion for data and analytics, be a self-starter comfortable with ambiguity, with strong attention to detail, an ability to work in a fast-paced and entrepreneurial environment, and driven by a desire to innovate Amazon’s approach to this space.

The key ways this role makes a difference in the Goodreads organization are:

· Develop complex queries for ad hoc requests and projects, as well as ongoing reporting.

· Design, develop and maintain scalable, automated, user-friendly systems, reports, dashboards, etc. that will support our analytical and business needs

· Design, implement, and support key datasets that provide structured and timely access to actionable business information addressing stakeholder needs.

· Interface directly with stakeholders, gathering requirements and owning automated end-to-end reporting solutions.

· Partner with analysts, data engineers, business intelligence engineers, and software development engineers across Books org and Amazon to produce complete data solutions.

· Simplify and automate reporting, audits, and other data-driven activities; build solutions to have maximum scale and self-service ability by stakeholders

· Proficiency with SQL queries to retrieve and analyze data. Learn and understand a broad range of Amazon’s data resources and know how, when, and which to use.

· We are not looking for someone that will only estimate models and write analyses but extract insights and provide business recommendations.

Basic Qualifications

  • 3+ years of analyzing and interpreting data with Redshift, Oracle, NoSQL etc. experience

  • Experience with data visualization using Tableau, Quicksight, or similar tools

  • Experience with data modeling, warehousing and building ETL pipelines

  • Experience writing complex SQL queries

  • Experience using SQL to pull data from a database or data warehouse and scripting experience (Python) to process data for modeling

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with AWS solutions such as EC2, DynamoDB, S3, and Redshift

  • Experience in data mining, ETL, etc. and using databases in a business environment with large-scale, complex datasets
