UL, LLC Project Engineer- Electrical Power Quality (Renewables) in Spain

In the field of grid integration, UL carries out measurements and evaluations to determine grid code compliance in the field of renewable energies (wind turbines, internal combustion engines, solar inverters, storage systems etc.)

The measurements are required for planning grid connections and verifying applicable limits, but they also allow an exact analysis of the electrical behavior of the generation units and systems, which is important for their design, development and optimization.

As our global footprint continues to spread across the world, we are looking for an experienced Electrical Project Engineer, to join our teams in Ansoáin, Navarra.

The successful engineer will be working in hybrid mode, managing customer projects in Spain and also in other EU countries and traveling to conduct or witness tests at client sites (around 25% time).

As a Renewables Project Engineer, your key responsibilities will be:

  • Determine project scope, develop a preliminary plan of investigation by analyzing client input, available supplemental data, and product construction

  • Determine project specifications such as cost, time, and sample requirements

  • Preparation of quotations and budget control

  • Manage Project throughout its entire lifecycle from management including budget control

  • Communicate with clients to discuss technical issues, explain UL procedures and requirements, convey project cost, and negotiate completion date and sample requirements

  • Establish appropriate test programs, execute electronic installation work (data acquisition systems, current/voltage transformers)

  • Calibration of measurement signals, configuration of data acquisition and transmission systems

  • Evaluation and plausibility check of the measurement data

  • Use of our mobile test facility to simulate grid faults (LVRT/HVRT)

  • Communicate project status and results to clients through frequent contact and by preparing reports/certification documents

  • University Degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, Industrial Technology, Manufacturing Technology

  • Experience as Electrical Project Engineer within the renewables sector, ideally within an international team/ in a complex matrix organisation

  • Willingness to take a lead role if required. Keen to mentor other more junior team members, share knowledge, experience and insights

  • Ability to travel nationally and internationally in Europe i.e. for prototype testing. Driver's license holder

  • Ability to work at heights / confined space

  • Fluent level of Spanish and intermediate level of English

  • Outstanding communication skills, verbally and in writing, with both colleagues and Clients
