UL, LLC Laboratory Engineer, EMC in United Kingdom
We are searching for a Laboratory Engineer for our EMC (Electro-Magnetic Compatibility) team in Basingstoke. This is an entry-level/early career position, ideally suited to someone who has gained in the region of 12 months experience of testing in a similar environment. Ideally, this would be experience of EMC testing, but we'd also like to hear from candidates who have gained experience in testing Radio (RF) products, medical devices or other safety-related product testing.
The EMC team tests and certifies consumer technology products, often the latest innovations in technology, to ensure compliance with the relevant EMC standards.

Our full-service EMC laboratories, equipped with state-of-the-art semi-anechoic chambers, hold important accreditations and are recognized by various regulatory bodies.
Builds and/or adapts setup and test equipment to new situations, based on data sheets and instructions from engineering department personnel
Operates designated laboratory equipment
Undertake testing on a wide range of products requiring certification
General laboratory related maintenance / upkeep
Accurately documenting test findings, which appropriately detail all aspects of testing performed
To update the company, work systems, with details of testing and overall job status, for each item of work for which the individual is responsible
Welcome, assist and support customers when they attend site and to confidently communicate results and/or project progress to the customer, either in person, via email or phone.
To meet customer delivery requirements in all respects
Applicants are required to have some level of engineering/science-based qualifications and must have a willingness to learn.
A genuine interest in technology is central and although not a requirement, an understanding of IT type equipment, radio technologies, such as cellular, WLAN and Bluetooth and testing equipment, including spectrum analysers and signal generators is highly desirable.
The role will also include the generation/creation of technical reports, therefore good verbal and written communication skills and an attention to detail are essential.
Skills required:
12 months + experience of safety product testing, e.g. radio, wireless comms, medical devices etc
EMC testing experience would be very much desired
A university degree or vocational qualifications in engineering (e.g. aeronautics) science or electronics would be desirable
Knowledge and experience of laboratory test concepts and reporting would be ideal
Exposure to relevant national and international regulatory requirements and standards
Be able to work independently and as part of a team
It is important that the individual can work to deadlines, to meet customer requirements.
