In our commercial function our job is clear “To help our teams manage the risks and realise the opportunities in bidding, winning and delivering great projects.”. This is underpinned by the following:-
Providing leadership in Commercial matters; directly with clients, making business easy and WSP easy to do business with.
Developing Commercial best practice, process and resources (careers) in support of WSP’s strategy.
Demonstrating the value from the Commercial Role
Focussing and action on strategic themes of governance, risk and opportunity with all stakeholders.
Providing dispute resolution support to the business.
A little more about your role…
To provide commercial services and effective project control to ensure that projects are delivered on time and within budget to the client’s satisfaction in a manner that maximises opportunities and revenue.
Responsibilities:
Provision of commercial expertise in support of disciplines major projects or projects portfolio.
Participate in the raising the commercial awareness and performance within the business.
Assist with Pre-Contract Activities including:-
work package contracts are tracked from receipt of a service request through to contract award (and on to final account),
submission of service proposals have passed through the business governance process,
work package contracts have been reviewed by both joint venture partners before being offered for execution, and
fully executed work package contracts have been received from the client.
Assist with Change Management (programme and value) in full compliance with the contractual and business obligations by ensuring
timely issue of all relevant notices,
generation and maintenance of registers and reports,
review of client communications, and
timely issue of robust responses.
Assist with Payment Management in full compliance with the contractual and business obligations by ensuring
applications capture the full value of work completed to the end of the relevant period,
a day one final account process is adopted to ensure there are no surprises to the client or the Business,
timely issue of payment applications,
generation and maintenance of reports,
liaison with the client to minimise amounts withheld,
timely receipt of payment and pay-less notices,
timely payment, and
reconciliation of contract receipts.
Provide Contractual Support to the project teams to ensure
compliance with contractual obligations,
minimised risk exposure, and
preservation of contractual entitlements.
Be an active member of the WSP Commercial and operations team, contributing to decision making and identifying business improvement opportunities; and contributing to the development of an enhanced commercial culture in the business.
What we are looking for you to demonstrate…
Skills:
Proven ability and track record in the majority of the following:
Proven track record of the commercial delivery of multi-disciplinary design projects.
Experience of successful delivery of within design and build contracts.
Specific experience of operating within joint ventures.
Management of the Project Cost Report including VOWD and Forecast at Completion
Change management – expertise across the main industry forms including NEC 3 and 4.
Strong Project management, organisational and investigative skills; Ability to simplify complex concepts.
Drafting of contractual correspondence.
Chairing regular commercial meetings with key delivery contractors
Earned Value analysis i.e. planned vs. achieved vs. expended.
Pro-active engagement in risk identification, evaluation and mitigation activity.
Proven capability of working in a collaborative environment with a strong teamwork ethos.
Strong drive with sound judgement. Quickly establishes credibility and sphere of influence.
Qualifications and experience:
Degree qualified and/or Membership of a relevant professional body is preferable (MICE/MRICS/MCIOB)
Significant relevant experience within a similar role.
Experienced in the use of standard forms of contract particularly NEC.
Commercial awareness
Multi Discipline Capability
Good MS Office Skills
Excellent communication skills
Ability to work in a team environment
