A little more about your role…

We are seeking a new team member at Senior or Principal level to support our growing focus on Freight Decarbonisation. This hybrid role will be UK wide and could be based at any of our UK offices.

Your Team

  • We are a small, friendly, and progressive team that spans across a range of grades and backgrounds.

  • The Freight and Logistics team sits within our wider Transport Planning team based across the UK. We support WSP’s transport activities across government clients, including Local Authority contracts, Sub-National Transport Bodies, National Government, (DfT, National Highways), Network Rail, national frameworks, city regions, and private sector companies and operators.

  • We specialise in providing freight and logistics solutions from initial concepts, through planning to full implementation. In doing so, we provide high level advice to clients on transport related planning and feasibility issues relating to strategy, policy and project/scheme development through to successful business case, supporting major schemes, delivering transport advice for a range of clients.

  • Key areas of work are across a large range of major and local projects that involve or relate to Freight and Logistics, including Public Transport and Mass Transit projects, Net Zero and decarbonisation, Behaviour change and demand management, highways, parking and road user charging, Future Mobility, Energy and Rail, Local Transport Plans, and Strategy and planning development.

  • With us, you’ll be provided with your own business mentor who will offer you advice and support, you’ll also be provided with internal Continued Professional Development (CPD) opportunities, and full support in your Chartership journey (if applicable).

Responsibilities

  • Leading the day-to-day technical transport planning input into a wide range of freight decarbonisation projects, alongside performing a project management and leadership role on projects where appropriate. This will include mentoring our Early Career Professionals to assist you in the delivery of projects.

  • Leading our transport planning input into small to medium scale projects and working with senior colleagues to assist in the delivery, management and leadership of larger multi-disciplinary projects. We will help and support you to develop your professional network, project experience and technical ability.

What we will be looking for you to demonstrate…

Blend of the below qualifications and the desire and passion to expand them

  • Experience of leading the technical work on some or all of the following: Fleet review, transition / implementation planning, business case development, EV strategy, site suitability assessment, depot charging feasibility / policy development, fleet procurement, emissions reporting, sustainable transport operations.

  • Good communication skills and the confidence to lead discussions with Clients, members of our project teams, co-professionals and other project stakeholders.

  • Excellent report writing skills.

  • Project management (e.g. budget planning, resource planning, invoicing) on small to medium scale projects.

  • Experience of preparing bids.

  • Ability to share knowledge and mentor others, in particular Early Career Professional colleagues, on your areas of technical expertise.

  • Expertise in day-to-day software packages such as Excel and Word.

  • Have a growing professional network of co-professionals and clients.

  • Ability to collaborate with our wider teams to support growth and delivery of projects.

  • Knowledge of other transport projects, technical skills and experience in the freight and logistics industry.

  • Knowledge of the Transport sector and understanding of key clients and organisations.

  • Relevant education and professional qualifications (or working towards),

  • The ability to work as part of a team.

  • An interest / passion for freight transport and transport innovation.
