Caterpillar, Inc. Senior Engineer - Design-2 in India
JOB PURPOSE: To lead design and development projects related to core engine systems and components for release to production in a manner to ensure products provide superior performance, durability, quality, and serviceability.
Job Duties/Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:
In this position you will lead design activities in development of core engine components (5C Components, Cylinder Pack, Structures, Lube & Cooling system etc.). You will also lead a team of engineers as you work on multiple projects
The projects could be new product introduction as well as current product improvement projects such cost reduction projects (resourcing / Commonization), engineering support for field / assembly / quality issues.
Work with customers, Process partners, SMEs to understand and document the requirements – Develop a project plan and manage.
Come up with concept ideas, perform design calculations and complete all activities in component / system development (FMEAs, APQP, Validation, Release drawings etc.). Liaise with cross functional teams (Simulation, Detailing, Manufacturing, Quality, Purchasing, Suppliers etc.) as required.
Lead engineering activities like Root Cause Investigation, develop Engineering solutions and validation plan in Continuous Product Improvement (CPI) projects. (includes liaising with manufacturing and assembly facilities)
Manage multiple projects and communicate results (Achievement towards cost / quality / timeline targets) to customers, suppliers, team members and other cross functional teams as required in various forums.
BE Mechanical engineering with minimum 10 or more years of relevant experience in engine industry (or)
ME / MTech Mechanical engineering (specialization in IC engines / engineering design / thermal engineering) with 8 or more years of relevant experience in engine industry (ideal candidate)
Skill Sets/Competencies (Must have)
Product knowledge of core engine components like 5C components, Bearings, Dampers, Gears and major forgings and castings.
Experience of New Product Introduction (NPI) (Concept to Production) and Value analysis / Value engineering techniques.
Able to design components as per reliability / durability requirements and with manufacturing feasibility.
Strong knowledge of virtual analysis tools and GD & T to apply as required.
Knowledge on Data extraction, regression analysis and problem solving.
Excellent Project Management, verbal / written communication, and interpersonal skills.
TOP CANDIDATES will have:
Advanced degree from reputed institution.
7+ years of Core engine component design and development by working with global and regional teams.
Experience in working with regional suppliers for core engine component development
Good knowledge of cross functional roles in domains such as Manufacturing, Purchasing, Quality, related to engines.
