Responsibilities Assist with the maintenance of warehouse inventory of goods (seed), including tracking, moving, and physical inventory checks. Use FBMS or other government systems to track and manage inventory of warehouse goods (seed), including the movement of seed from raw material, to inventory status, to charging out to the field customers. Ensure the proper storage, care, transportation, and handling of seed within the warehouse system. Operate specialized warehouse equipment for the movement of goods including pallet jacks, shrink wrappers, mixers, trailers and other equipment. Provide customer service to field customers, seed industry representatives, seed testing laboratories, management, and external customers. Work with new customers to explain processes and operating procedures to facilitate the procurement of seed from the warehouse. Experience: You must possess one (1) full year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-06 level that is equivalent in difficulty and complexity as indicated by the following examples: Provide customer service and support to internal and external audiences; work as part of a crew or team member in a warehouse or office setting; assist in the filling of supply orders; use spreadsheets and/or a financial database software to track shipments or inventory. -OR- Education: Successful completion of one full year of graduate level education (18 credits or equivalent), in a field that provided the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work. Related degrees may include Agronomy, Agricultural Science, Botany, Plant Science, Horticulture, Seed Ecology, or Crop Science. You must submit a copy of your transcripts. - OR- Combination of Education and Experience: You may meet qualifications requirement for this position with an equivalent combination of specialized experience and appropriate graduate education. Graduate level education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of this position. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. You must meet all qualification requirements by the closing date of the announcement. Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade requirement in accordance with 5 CFR 300.604. Physical Demands: This work involves a combination of sedentary and physically active work. The work requires standing, stooping, bending, and walking on level and potentially uneven terrain. The incumbent frequently lifts and carries loads up to 50 pounds, on hard surface floors in a warehouse, yard, or shop areas. Physical work can be for extended durations of time including for several hours in a single daily shift. Work Environment: Incumbent works in both inside and outside areas. Warehousing is done in areas that are hot, cold, drafty, and poorly lighted. The work is dirty and dusty. The incumbent is exposed to the possibility of cuts, scrapes, bruises, and the safety hazards inherent in warehouse conditions. The incumbent must apply a wide range of safety precautions under uncontrolled conditions and must use personal protective equipment and gear as necessary. A substantial amount of the work is performed in an office setting with adequate environmental conditions. Additional Information This position serves the National Seed Warehouse System at either the Boise Regional Seed Warehouse in Boise, Idaho, or the Ely Regional Seed Warehouse in Ely, Nevada. The incumbent works in a large warehouse in support of vegetation management efforts across the BLM. Work for this position includes the physical movement of warehouse goods between warehouses, seed industry, and BLM customers, as well as the virtual movement of warehouse goods in the BLM tracking and inventory systems.
