Description

The Assistant Manager of Bus Operations will a ssist in managing the daily operation of a transportation bus garage, ensuring the successful implementation of strategies that produce cost effective and high-quality service. This positions will be responsible for leading bus operators to fulfill agency expectations to ensure optimum service delivery, customer service, safety and security. As well as serve as the on-call manager for a 24x7 workforce.

This role requires being onsite five (5) days per week.

Serve as a good steward of TriMet by regularly utilizing our transit system to maintain a strong and current understanding of customers’ experiences and of TriMet’s product and service offerings.

Essential Functions

  1. P rovide direction and set standards for excellence in internal and external customer service. Promote professional and courteous behavior with a creative approach to problem resolution that creates a positive experience for the customer. Model and hold staff accountable to be sensitive to the special needs of customers, including those from culturally diverse backgrounds, the elderly, persons with disabilities, or other vulnerable populations.

  2. R esponsible for the effective management of employee and labor relations issues for one or more of Bus Operators, including investigation, documentation and administering disciplinary action as required.

  3. E valuate individual and departmental performance. Provide individual coaching, mentoring and counseling as required to enhance performance. Monitor progress toward achieving individual and collective performance goals, provide feedback and recognize achievement.

  4. A ctively support safety and security practices through rigorous curriculum and regular reinforcement of safety standards by managing the performance of bus operators.

  5. D evelop a work environment that is inclusive, respectful and in full partnership with members and officers of the ATU. Ensure consistent application of policies, procedures and labor agreement throughout the workforce. Develop and maintain a productive, principle-based, and creative problem-solving approach to employee and labor relations' issues. Establish, evaluate and ensure sustained excellence in operational performance through clearly defined objectives and measurements, regular monitoring of performance indicators, and continuous involvement of transportation workforce.

  6. I nvestigator in charge of basic bus incidents, including producing incident briefs, root cause analysis, and ensuring corrective measures are enacted.

  7. P rovide direct supervision and leadership, including competency management, to employees and develop positive rapport with personnel and the public to assure optimal transportation employee performance and safe, courteous and reliable service.

  8. A ctively promote and support diversity in the workplace through staffing, promotions, training, and career development. Model respect for diversity in the workplace.

  9. A ssist in the documentation, development and implementation of policies, standard operating procedures, communication protocols, business processes, and training programs. Recommend changes as appropriate. Support and lead agency wide incentives.

  10. Participation in and/or control of process improvement committees to further TriMet's mission, vision and values.

Position Requirements

A minimum of a High School Diploma or equivalent is required.

A Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Transportation, Transportation Planning, Urban Planning, or similar is preferred.

A minimum of four (4) years total credited experience with three (3) years of e xperience in a transportation, transit, or service related industry being required.

One (1) year experience in a lead role in one of the following areas: Control Center, Field Operations, and/or Transportation is recommended. Experience in managing large, complex systems.

Possession of a current/valid Class "C" drivers' license issued by Oregon or Washington; ability to pass a driving record check meeting TriMet driving record standards is required.

Or any equivalent combination of training and experience.

  • The amount of credit a candidate receives for prior years of experience is based on the relevancy of that experience to the required or preferred prerequisites of the job description. Experience is prorated based on hours worked. LRHR assigns and validates the "credited experience".

Salary Range

Minimum: $99,064.00

Maximum: $148,597.00

Salary offers will be determined by a candidate’s education, training and relevant experience. Any final offer of employment will fall within the range stated above. For transparency, we choose to list the full available grade range, however, TriMet’s salary administration process will ultimately determine the final salary offered.
