Distribution Project Engineer

POWER Engineers, Inc. is seeking a Project Engineer for our Distribution team in San Diego, CA. Initial expectations are for this individual to perform project work and develop local client relationships.

Roles and Responsibilities

This project engineer will perform aspects of conventional design engineering and analysis along with managing engineers on smaller, often multi-discipline, engineering projects and interfaces directly with clients. Candidates will apply advanced engineering techniques and analyses to solve project-related problems. This engineer will be expected to deal directly with clients and therefore must possess good written and oral communications skills.

Responsibilities include but may not be limited to:

  • Cost estimating

  • Project scheduling

  • Reviewing designs

  • Assigning tasks to/coordinating with internal/external project team members

  • Working with Project Manager (PM), planning coordination activities, ensuring quality standards are met

  • Identifying and communicating the need for work scope variances as needed

  • Coordinating with the PM to develop supporting documentation and managing the project documentation process to meet POWER’s record retention policy

  • Assisting the PM in evaluating the upcoming resource needs for specific design activities

Required Education/Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent industry related experience) from an accredited university required – architecture, engineering, engineering management, or construction management discipline preferred

  • Five (5) + years of experience in the design and operation of overhead and/or underground distribution lines (4 kV through 35 kV)

  • The qualified candidate should be experienced with the following:

  • Utility standards

  • Joint facilities design

  • Compatible units

  • Construction package development

  • Design and operation of advanced systems

  • Distribution design software

  • Permitting including: City, County, State, RR

  • The successful candidate must be able to demonstrate the following:

  • Excellent computer skills

  • Familiarity with various scheduling techniques

  • Excellent leadership and organizational skills

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Ability to work effectively with competing priorities and stressful situations

  • Knowledge and experience with project management processes and tools

  • Proficiency with financial analysis tools

  • Must be able to successfully pass client's background screening process

  • Must have a valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record

Desired Education/Experience

  • California P.E. License preferred
