Entry-Level Structural Engineer (Substation Projects)

Job Summary

POWER Engineers is seeking an Entry-Level Structural Engineer to work in the Power Delivery Substation Department in our Overland Park, Kansas office. Employee will need to live within commutable distance of the office (this enables training and mentorship).

Responsibilities

The Entry-Level Structural Engineer will share responsibility with the rest of the department to produce a product consistent with POWER's mission statement and our culture. They are expected to support the department in achieving its department goals, maintain POWER's high-quality standards, promote internal teamwork, and meet the needs of our clients.

The Entry-Level Structural Engineer will be involved in all aspects of structural design on electrical substation projects, including structural design, foundation design, and support of substation physical design and equipment layout. Occasional travel may be required.

Required Education/Experience

  • BSCE (Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering) degree, with a structural emphasis, from an accredited university

  • Candidate should enjoy living in the Overland Park area or have a desire and ability to relocate there with minimal assistance

  • Strong command of the English language with good written and oral communication skills to work effectively with internal team members and external client personnel

  • Legally authorized to work permanently in the U.S. without the need for work sponsorship

Desired Education/Experience

  • Minimum 3.0 Grade Point Average (GPA).

  • Ideal coursework includes structural analysis, concrete design, steel design, soil mechanics, foundation design

  • 3+ months of relevant engineering work experience, especially if related to structural engineering; could be on an internship or co-op basis

  • Structural analysis design software experience is a plus

  • Familiarity with electrical utility level substations is helpful

  • Engineer In Training certificate (EIT) or passed the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam
