Job Summary:
As a Field Applications Engineer, you’ll be our customers’ primary technical resource throughout the project lifecycle. This role requires that you establish and grow strong, positive customer relationships in order to translate customer needs into optimal Array solutions. This position may require occasional evening and weekend hours.
Key Job Responsibilities:
Develop expert-level technical knowledge of Array’s product offering and their corresponding applications
Analyze and cost optimize projects for competitive positioning of the Array tracker products
Coordinate required technical design efforts around a project including tracker structure and foundation design
Support quoting and contract activities to ensure design requirements have been met and Array specifications are defined
Provide customer pre-sales or post-sales engineering support on-site
Train EPCs on best deployment practices/methodologies and fastest install techniques
Identify independent engineers (IE) in the region and empower them to differentiate our products over competition
Create and deliver technical presentations for customer meetings
Champion product features and enhancements and process improvements to increase commercial success
Serve as customer’s primary technical point-of-contact during the pre-sales process
Work with a geographically dispersed sales team to achieve industry-leading technical sales support
Build strong technical relationships at the customer level
Collaborate with customers to identify technical project requirements in RFPs
Establish site specific design requirements for a project
Design the tracker configuration to meet site and customer requirements
Provide timely feedback on questions related to project or product design
Perform tracker structure design activities for preliminary designs to support quoting process
Address escalated issues, technical or otherwise, from others in the Applications Engineering team
Develop and refine processes in coordination with stakeholders from other groups to achieve process improvements
Support development and evaluation of tools and software applications used by the Applications Engineering Group
Be expected to travel primarily within the US & Canada, up to 30%
Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in engineering
5-7 years of experience in sales, project development, applications engineering or related role
3+ years of experience supporting a national market
2+ years of working experience in the following:
Understanding competitive mounting products in utility solar and articulating differences in technology
Analyzing utility solar project economics including: plant production, CAPEX, OPEX, LCOE
Navigating the technical requirements of project development, construction and plant operation
Reviewing and optimizing site layouts using CAD
Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to present technical information clearly and interact effectively with customers and cross-functional teams.
Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
Preferred qualifications:
Advanced engineering degree
Experience in the solar market
Recognition as an industry thought leader
Ability to work across multiple organizations in a fast paced, smaller company environment
