Summary This position is a Fish and Wildlife Biologist, GS- 0401-12. Multiple positions are available in the duty stations of Bloomington, MN, Madison, WI, and Green Bay, WI. Responsibilities The Minnesota-Wisconsin Ecological Services Field Office works in unique landscapes with diverse partners to conserve and protect endangered species and their habitats and support landscape-scale habitat restoration throughout Minnesota and Wisconsin. Responsibilities under the Endangered Species Act include listing, recovery, and cooperation with other agencies and partners to conserve endangered and declining species. Through early communication and coordination, we consult and provide technical assistance?on a variety of projects including construction activities, energy development (transmission lines, hydro and wind power), and transportation and infrastructure development. Natural Resource Damage Assessment and Restoration (NRDAR) cases, the Coastal Program, and the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative provide opportunities to build partnerships, restore and protect habitat, and recover degraded areas of the Great Lakes. As a fish and wildlife biologist, this position may be responsible for the following duties but not limited to developing Species Status Assessments, ESA Section 7 consultation, coordinating and providing technical assistance to ESA Section 10 permit applicants, imperiled species recovery, and consultation for transportation and infrastructure projects. The successful candidate will serve in a leadership role to develop collaborative, biologically sound, and partnership driven approaches to meet Service mission goals with partners and other stakeholders such as other Federal, state fish and wildlife agencies, Tribes, non-governmental organizations, the private sector, and universities. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications Only experience and education obtained by 07/09/2024 will be considered. In order to qualify for this position you must possess both the Basic Requirement and Minimum Qualification. Basic Requirement: A. Degree: Bachelor's or higher degree in the biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position. OR B. Combination of education and experience: Courses equivalent to a major, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education. Minimum Qualification [GS-12]: Possess one year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-11 grade level in the Federal service. Experience includes (1) serving as a lead, primary author, or coordinator on projects related to ecosystem management and land-use planning; (2) conducting investigations to determine the impact of land and/or water development projects, including renewable energy, upon at-risk species and their habitats; (3) negotiating alternative actions or mitigation measures; (4) developing habitat conservation or restoration projects; (5) providing technical assistance and advisement on the Endangered Species Act; (6) preparing biological portion of environmental assessment or impact statements, or resource planning reports; (7) implementing federal environmental laws (e.g., Endangered Species Act, Federal Land Policy and Management Act, Clean Water Act, Fish and Wildlife Coordination Act, and/or National Environmental Policy Act) as well as regulations and policies involving natural resources. Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Education Education cannot be used as a substition for this grade level. PASS/FAIL COURSES: If more than 10 percent of your undergraduate course work (credit hours) were taken on a pass/fail basis, your claim of superior academic achievement must be based upon class standing or membership in an honor society. GRADUATE EDUCATION: One academic year of graduate education is considered to be the number of credits hours your graduate school has determined to represent one academic year of full-time study. Such study may have been performed on a full-time or part-time basis. If you cannot obtain your graduate school's definition of one year of graduate study, 18 semester hours (or 27 quarter hours) should be considered as satisfying the requirement for one year of full-time graduate study.
