Position Summary

The Group Controller, Manufacturing is responsible for the oversight of the financial and accounting performance of the Manufacturing, Supply Chain and Distribution Operations. The incumbent will provide business guidance and financial support and as a a core member of the business leadership team will also assist Operations leadership in strategy development and the execution of strategic objectives. This position has global responsibility for financial analysis and reporting for plants and warehouses.

The financial responsibilities include, but are not limited to, development of high performing Manufacturing, Supply Chain and Distribution accounting/analytical teams, insuring the accuracy of monthly results; performing financial analysis of monthly results; oversight and responsibility for financial reporting and system integration; capital spending and analysis; preparation, review and analysis of financial statements; preparation of budgets and forecasts as well as establishing and maintaining systems of good internal controls.

Duties

Business Strategy: 50%

  • Significant contributor to strategic planning discussions, including determining volume and production targets, and new cost improvement ideas. Must include opportunity projects from Sourcing, Engineering and other departments.

  • Manages all financial aspects of the annual budget, including determining absorption, raw material costs, manufacturing and warehouse cost changes and improvements. Must address financial opportunities and risks, especially with Engineering and Cost Improvement projects.

  • Directs the process for creating the annual capital budget for all the Manufacturing plants, warehouses and the Supply Chain group.

  • Assist with decisions on where to build plants, products, including determining cost implications of such moves.

  • Provide financial leadership in the development of cost saving projects (including past Kaizen events), analysis of contract manufacturing proposals and to be a key financial resource on any specific capital projects.

  • Provide guidance as it pertains to knowledge of plant ERP systems and assist in migration and integration with other systems.

  • Partner with key internal customers to identify and explore alternative methods to reduce costs.

  • Be the lead financial resource on any plant or warehouse specific acquisitions or consolidations.

  • Manages the Financial team involvement in the manufacturing process, preparing and reviewing financial analysis and forecasts of new product development projects.

  • Create, monitor and advise strategies on proper inventory levels to not only improve turns but ensure that lead times are met

  • Assist in the analysis of any significant capital acquisition, including but not limited to new plants, warehouses and large dollar purchases

Reporting and Analysis: 30%

  • Review and analyze monthly, quarterly and annual operating results. Responsible for providing monthly and quarterly reporting of all aspects of the manufacturing, supply chain and warehouse performance. This would include analysis, variance analysis, and explanations for volume, variance analysis, capital and inventory. Key Advisor to non financial management on matters related to accounting issues, recognition of revenue, and expense management.

  • Responsible for directing the work of multiple plant controllers across multiple business units

  • Determine how to capture, report and ensure accuracy of total company inventory.

  • Create period (monthly, quarterly and year to date) forecasts of all major cost and inventory categories. Review, educate and gain alignment on forecast variances to improve customer service levels while driving down inventory. Directs the forecast of key balance sheet items like inventory and capital spend.

  • Identify and refine leading indicators for the plants, identify trends, quantify impact.

  • Institute key metrics and reporting that measure the performance of the plants and warehouses, helping to develop and maintain product line profitability.

  • Ongoing, identify opportunities or areas of financial underperformance, conduct in depth analysis and make appropriate recommendations.

  • Drive standardization on reporting and processes across the network

Duties Continued

Financial Controls and Oversight: 10%

  • Responsible for ensuring consistency and accuracy of financial reporting across multiple plants and locations.

  • Ensure proper revenue and expense recognition, particularly with new product offerings

  • Directs the implementation and oversight of internal control systems within the business units, insuring compliance with Sarbanes Oxley.

  • Be the financial “conscience” of the businesses, ensuring integrity of the systems and reporting and expenses/revenue.

  • Review of all major financial contracts.

Coaching and Developing teams: 10%

  • Manage and lead teams of Finance professionals

Required Experience

  • Bachelors Degree in Accounting, Finance, or Operations Management

  • Masters Degree; MBA or CPA preferred

  • 12-15 years finance and/or accounting experience, which must include:

  • Experience in progressive roles in finance controller or plant finance manager positions.

  • Heavy involvement in strategy development / strategic planning experience

  • Exceptional business analysis and analytical skill required

  • Global business acumen and international leadership experience

  • 10 years financial reporting and analysis, cost accounting experience required.

  • Prior responsibility of overseeing internal controls for a business; working knowledge of Sarbanes Oxley requirements is required.

  • Excellent knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles, accounting theories, financial analysis, and cost accounting and accounting concepts that are considered leading edge. Experience with complex reporting structures and organizations is required.

  • Acquisition experience preferred, including due diligence and integration experience.

  • Strong problem solving skills to assist management in operational objectives.

  • Experience in implementation of MRP systems (Oracle preferred).

  • Experience working with LEAN concepts and LEAN financial reporting concepts.
