Job Purpose: This internship position will mainly work with the Bethlehem office category development analyst team on projects that include analyzing and developing category plans, tactics, and strategies that are consistent with marketing objectives and customer needs.
The co-op intern will be exposed to a complex set of competitive issues and strategies around geographic markets, brands, categories, customers, management, negotiations, and marketing.
During the co-op internship, this individual will interact with individuals in a variety of job functions, including marketing, sales, retail operations, consumer insights, and syndicated data suppliers. These contacts may range from Hormel field and Corporate-based individuals to retail customers.
Responsibilities:
As part of their assignment, the individual in this co-op internship will assist the category development team in the following:
Assessments of categories/brands with the goal of improved business results, including sales, distribution, profitability and brand share growth for the customer and Hormel Foods Corporation.
Development of category-based recommendations based on “pulling” and analysis of data from various sources, including internal Hormel data, retailer-specific POS/internal data, and IRi syndicated data
Recommendations development, which may include new item distribution, distribution opportunities, shelf space management, merchandising strategies for various markets, and customer performance tracking.
This individual may be asked assist in the presentation of these recommendations to one or more Hormel retail customers.
Additional experiences include:
Sales presentation to Corporate team
Lead/develop key customer project to be presented to the retailer at the end of 6-month co-op internship
Assist local customer headquarter sales team to develop promotional planner, utilizing trade budget, and volume forecasting
Participate in retailer food shows with customer headquarter sales team
Opportunities to shadow and work cross-functionally with other divisions
Some overnight travel, including Corporate and other Hormel field sales offices
Competitive product cuttings to evaluate product differences and attributes
Requirements:
Must graduate in December 2025 or May 2026, and be enrolled in the Food Marketing program with a minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA preferred
Demonstrated leadership, persuasive, initiative, and communication skills are necessary for success in this position
Possess knowledge of computers, syndicated data, space management tools, spreadsheets, databases, and category management tools
Possess a strong work ethic and an entrepreneurial spirit
Must be a Citizen or National of the United States, a lawful, permanent resident, or have authorization to work in the United States

Must be comfortable with the preparation and consumption of meat products; more specifically, pork, beef, chicken, and peanuts
Location and Hours:
Bethlehem, PA sales office
Position is approximately 40 hours per week beginning in January and ending in late July/early August
Compensation:
Competitive wage
The base pay range is $20 to $23 per hour; however, actual compensation is influenced by a wide array of factors including, but not limited to, job-related knowledge, skill set, level of experience, and specific office location
Paid housing allowance
Reimbursement of all expenses incurred on the job
