Summary The Center for Devices and Radiological Health (CDRH) assures that patients and providers have timely and continued access to safe, effective, and high-quality medical devices and safe radiation-emitting products. CDRH facilitates medical device innovation by advancing regulatory science, providing industry with predictable, consistent, transparent, and efficient regulatory pathways, and assuring consumer confidence in devices marketed in the U.S. Responsibilities These positions are located in the Food and Drug Administration, Center for Devices and Radiological Health, Office of Product Evaluation and Quality, Offices of Health Technology in Silver Spring, Maryland. This is a remote position. The Offices of Health Technology are responsible for executing end-to-end device review programs and activities under the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act. This includes the premarket, investigational device exemption, premarket notification, compliance and surveillance reviews. As an Interdisciplinary position you will serve as a Chemist and Physicist: Plan and direct the review and evaluation of medical device and radiologic product information of the team to identify actual or potential medical device problems and/or risks to public health; Lead the team in the review of scientific data in medical device submissions and other regulated articles to ensure the safety and effectiveness of medical devices; Serve as a source of information and guidance on medical device-related issues applicable to devices, laws, regulations, and policies; and Plan, coordinate, and evaluate the program activities of the team. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications The position of Interdisciplinary Scientist falls within the 1310/1320 occupational series. To qualify for this position at grade GS-14, you must meet Time-in-Grade requirements by 11:59 pm EST on 02/26/2024. Minimum Qualifications: If you would like to be considered for the Physics position, you must meet the following Basic Education Requirement: A. Degree: physics; or related degree that included at least 24 semester hours in physics. OR B. Combination of education and experience -- courses equivalent to a major in physics totaling at least 24 semester hours, plus appropriate experience or additional education. In either A or B above, the courses must have included a fundamental course in general physics and, in addition, courses in any two of the following: electricity and magnetism, heat, light, mechanics, modern physics, and sound. Degree: physical sciences, life sciences, or engineering that included 30 semester hours in chemistry, supplemented by course work in mathematics through differential and integral calculus, and at least 6 semester hours of physics. OR B. Combination of education and experience -- course work equivalent to a major as shown in A above, including at least 30 semester hours in chemistry, supplemented by mathematics through differential and integral calculus, and at least 6 semester hours of physics, plus appropriate experience or additional education. IN ADDITION to the basic education requirement for both series, you must meet the specialized experience, as follows: You MUST possess at least one full year (52 weeks) of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-13 or equivalent band level of responsibility in the Federal service. This experience includes: -Analyzing and interpreting scientific documents, data sets, technical information, and/or opinions related to medical products; -Writing justifications and/or presenting on analytical findings of scientific data; and -Managing, directing or overseeing the work of a team or working group. In accordance with Office of Personnel Management policy, federal employees are assumed to have gained experience by performing duties and responsibilities appropriate for their official series and grade level as described in their position description. Experience that would not normally be part of the employee's position is creditable, however, when documented by satisfactory evidence, such as a signed memorandum from the employee's supervisor or an SF-50 or SF-52 documenting an official detail or other official assignment.
