Position Summary

The Materials Manager ensures a customer focused perspective of providing goods and services while developing and leading efficient, effective and high-quality processes related to materials management including production planning, inventory control and purchasing. Appraise operations of any part shortages, provide daily communication until the shortage is resolved, and analyze shortage to implement corrective action. Develop and maintain agreements with vendors to ensure that all logistical details from forecast to payment are successfully executed. The individual will interface with operations, engineering, warehouse/logistics, finance and quality functions in the organization.

What you will do

  • Develop and direct high-quality systems, processes, and human resources in the areas of production planning/scheduling and inventory management, that are focused on meeting customer requirements in the most effective and efficient manner.

  • Lead and facilitate site level monthly supply planning process supporting S&OP by establishing 12-month production material and capacity requirements. Identify and communicate operating gaps and options to close identified gaps.

  • Establish and maintain production scheduling, inventory, and production control strategies.

  • Researches and recommends vendors, negotiates contracts for good, services, supplies and equipment ensuring quality, cost effectiveness and timely delivery. Resolves disputes with vendors.

  • Work effectively with all functional teams inside and outside our organization to establish and maintain schedules and inventory levels to meet customer delivery needs

  • Work effectively with all functional teams to develop and implement ECO’s according to our Quality System and documented policies and procedures.

  • Assure accurate records of inventory movement and transactions are in place and effective to ensure data integrity.

  • Provide leadership for the management of inventories and maintain total inventory dollar investments within established guidelines while improving the state of inventory investment while not affecting customer needs or negatively impacting costs, work to remove barriers to costs to manufacture

  • Participate in internal and external audits and follow-up with appropriate activities to mitigate future issues in areas shown to be at risk during the audit.

  • Responsible to work with others to develop improved ERP system capabilities.

What you will need to be successful

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, engineering, or materials management required with emphasis in supply chain management preferred.

  • 7+ years’ experience with increasing responsibility in materials management in a manufacturing environment.

  • Requires a thorough understanding of manufacturing operations, ERP/MRP systems, engineering and finance and the systems to support and integrate these functions.

  • Requires an understanding and experience in Operational Excellence through Continuous Improvement using lean thinking and tools.

  • Requires ability to execute and work within Strategy Deployment leadership thinking and activities.

  • Requires a demonstrated ability to achieve best total cost of ownership driven inventory strategies

  • Certification as CPIM or CIRM is desired.

  • Strong ability to utilize a data warehouse to prepare internal reports along with ability to use Microsoft Excel to report data functionally from data downloaded from ERP system.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills along with the ability to interact with people at all levels of the organization both inside and outside the company.

  • Must be able to summarize issues and present facts and when appropriate make recommendations to management as well as implement solutions.

  • Demonstrated ability to follow up with tasks and issues along with demonstrated problem solving skills are essential.
