Axis Property and A&H Senior Reserving Actuarial Analyst in United States

How does this role contribute to our collective success?

This role is a member of the AXIS Property and A&H actuarial reserving team and assists in performing and enhancing quarterly reserving analyses for both insurance and reinsurance business. This position is acting as a number two to a Property and A&H Product Line lead and therefore will have a significant impact on quarterly reserving positions held by Axis Capital and annual profitability of the organization.

What will you do in this role?

Quarterly Reserving

  • Sole responsibility of certain classes of business within Property and A&H team, from decision making on the level of analysis to senior management presentations

  • Provide analyses for quarterly reserving for the Property and A&H segments on both UY basis and GAP basis, gross and net of reinsurance

  • Support the selections of initial expected loss ratios by evaluating trend and rate change experience, working closely with pricing actuaries

  • Assist with the projections underlying the plan for the subsequent year by doing deep dive analyses

  • Perform actual versus expected analyses, including explanation of large movements during the quarter

  • Present quarterly underwriting year and accident year exhibits to divisional underwriting units

  • Lead meetings with other departments such as Claims, Finance, Operations etc.

  • Analyse reserve estimates for large Catastrophe events by working closely with Claims team and Catastrophe coordinator

  • Participate in ad-hoc reserve and profitability studies on specific lines of business, including analysis of underwriting and claim trends, shifts in mix of business, changes in limits or retentions, and examination of loss and premium development patterns

  • Partner with Property and A&H Pricing and Underwriting counterparts to provide insights and better understand results

  • Assist with the analysis of new business opportunities and expansion of current business, as needed

  • Peer review work from more junior members of the team.

Finance/Corporate Support

  • Respond to data requests and provide support for quarterly reserving from the corporate actuarial group, as well as other internal clients

Important Working Relationships

  • This position’s working relationships entail frequent interaction with all departments of the company (Finance, Underwriting, Insurance, Reinsurance, Claims, ILS, etc.). This person should enjoy working as part of a team and be able to work with a diverse group of personalities.

About You:

What you need to have:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Maths, Accounting, Economics, Statistics, Business, Risk Management, or a similar field which demonstrates an affinity and talent for quantitative analysis

  • Studying to become an actuary or Fully Qualified (FIA/ACAS/Other Actuarial bodies)

  • Good PC skills and knowledge of Microsoft Excel, SQL and ResQ

  • Being able to identify trends quickly and apply creative thinking to implement the trend changes within the Reserving processes

  • Able to communicate clearly and adapt to different audiences

  • Being able to prioritise and organise work during busy Reserving periods

What we prefer you to have:

  • Experience in A&H/Property reserving and/or pricing is preferable, but not essential.

Role Factors:

Currently, we would like you to be in the office 1-2 days per week on average.
