Job Summary

The Research Technician I ( Herbst Internship ) position is a 3 - month study on non-game wildlife species in Texas. The intern will study the island biogeography of Texas tortoises and the pathogens they carry on coastal clay L omas in southern Texas. Intern will create a research poster and present it at the next Texas Chapter of the Wildlife Society meeting. The successful applicant must be an undergraduate from a university within Texas. This position is based in Kingsville, Texas and will run from approximately mid - May to mid - August.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Collects field data on Texas tortoise populations and pathogens on C oastal L omas of south Texas.

  • Records data in datasets. Analyzes data with the help of PIs, and creates graphs and tables to communicate results.

  • Operates field and lab technical equipment, e.g., GPS units to mark tortoise locations.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

    Minimum Requirements

    Education – High school diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience.

    Experience – Two years of related experience.

    Ability to – Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.

    Licensing / Professional Certification – None.

    Physical Requirements – Ability to lift moderately heavy objects. Ability to exert heavy force.

    Other Requirements

  • Work beyond normal business hours and/or work on weekends but not to exceed 40 hours /week.
