Glimpse of the Job:

The Software Application Developer II performs complex and specialized software development support functions, such as troubleshooting, analysis, interface design, research, de-bugging, and problem-solving.

Qualifications

Required Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Three (3) years of software application developer experience, including one (1) year of experience in: analysis, troubleshooting, code debugging, requirement assessment and analysis, and project management methodology; SQL (Oracle PL/SQL); HTML or CSS; JavaScript or jQuery; Angular 2+, NodeJS, and other front-end frameworks.

  • Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others.

  • Must have strong interpersonal skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience must include: analysis, troubleshooting, code debugging, requirement assessment and analysis, and project management methodology; SQL (Oracle PL/SQL); HTML or CSS; JavaScript or jQuery; Angular 2+, NodeJS, and other front-end frameworks.

Essential Duties/Tasks:

  • 65%: Perform application design, development and testing tasks including: Develops specifications, based upon customer input requirements, and convert into thorough design documents. Creates complex design documents. Assists project leader with developing work plan and time schedules for computing projects, including outlining phases and identifying personnel and computing equipment requirements. Aids in providing technical project direction. Writes, updates, maintains, tests and rewrites complex computer programs, websites, and web applications that insert, update, select, and display information from databases. Develops applications for student information system (Ellucian Banner), and web portal (uPortal) using various technologies such as Java, Groovy, SQL, PL/SQL, jQuery, JavaScript (Angular & NodeJS), HTML, CSS, and XSLT. Reviews, designs, codes, debugs and tests complex programs, program modifications or applications. Assists project leader with developing work plan and time schedules for computing projects including outlining phases and identifying personnel and computer equipment requirements. Evaluates software products, projects, and programming languages to determine their applicability to a specific system and/or project. Reviews and analyzes software documentation and production results to facilitate problem resolutions.

  • 10%: Complete specialized duties including all or some of the specialized duties of a Software Applications Developer.

  • 10%: Perform other core duties that include working to coordinate the technical activities of a small project team. Assist and mentor other employees in resolving various issues. Participates with management personnel in planning, direction, and coordinating operational and/or procedural matters to meet goals and objectives. Produces reports and summaries for management and/or users including status reports, problem reports, progress summaries, and system utilization reports. Participates in change management and problem tracking. Confers with users to review project plans and schedules, secure approval of test results and discuss problems or concerns.

  • 5%: Complete documentation tasks, including reviews and analyzes software documentation and production results to facilitate problem resolution.

  • 5%: Participates in training and professional development sessions.

  • 5%: Performs other duties as assigned.
