PURPOSE

The Conrad Blucher Institute for Surveying and Science is building a coastal ocean observation software system. The project scope includes the design and implementation of a new Cloud-native system consisting of back end microservices, a modern user interface, the implementation and integration of automated data QA/QC tools, and the migration of environmental data from an existing system to the new system. The project consists of a software development team and a data automation team.

The Software Application Developer III (Front End) (SADIII), under direction of the software development lead, serves as team member for development of a Cloud-native application. The SAD III (Front End) works with the development Scrum team on implementation of the system. This position focuses on experience in front-end or client-side development and assists the development team with back-end development.

DESCRIPTION

Software Development : 85%

  • Participates in daily stand-up and other Scrum activities.

  • Assists the software development team lead with breaking down work items into tasks.

  • Evaluates and recommends based on the evaluation of software products and programming languages for their applicability to the system or project.

  • Coordinates the integration of multiple code designs, features, and services to ensure compatibility, reliability, and scalability.

  • Creates and maintains software code.

  • Responds to any software bugs that arise.

  • Collaborates with other team members on brainstorming, implementation, code reviews.

  • Creates UI mockups with tools such as Figma.

    Communication and Collaboration : 10%

  • Effectively communicates with colleagues to understand project requirements, timelines, and expectations.

  • Provides regular updates on project progress and seek feedback to improve deliverables.

  • Maintains open and clear communication channels, ensuring prompt responses to inquiries and requests.

    Other : 5%

  • Other duties as assigned.

    QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, or a related field.

  • Five (5) years of software development experience.

  • Additional education/experience may be used as a substitute for the minimum requirements:

  • Associate degree in related field and seven (7) years of software development experience, OR

  • Master’s degree and three (3) years of software development experience.

  • Experience with JavaScript/TypeScript front-end frameworks such as React or VueJS.

  • Experience working in software development team environment.

  • Experience with designing responsive modern web user interface from the ground up.

  • Experience working with REST API.

  • Experience with project management tools such as Jira, AzureDevOps, Trello, Github Projects.

  • Excellent written communication, analytical, interpersonal skills.

  • Cares about the end user experience and strives to create intuitive user interface.

  • Demonstrated curiosity to learn new programming languages and knowledge.

  • Experience with source version control (Git) in a team environment.

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Strong understanding of the importance of security when developing a system.

  • Proven track record with optimization and writing performant front-end code.

  • Experience working with front-end mockup tools such as Figma.

  • Experience working with public Cloud platforms such as Azure, AWS, Google Cloud.

  • Experience working with TailwindCSS.

  • Experience with back-end development using Python, Node.js, TypeScript.

  • Experience implementing server-side API.

  • Experience with building CI/CD pipeline.

  • Experience working in a Scrum team.

    SALARY: $6,666.67 - $7,916.67 Monthly ($80,000 - $95,000 Annually, Approximately)
