The Role

Oversees and manages the operational aspects of ongoing projects and serves as liaison between project management and planning, project team, and line management. Reviews status of projects and budgets; manages schedules and prepares status reports. Assesses project issues and develops resolutions to meet productivity, quality, and client-satisfaction goals and objectives. Develops mechanisms for monitoring project progress and for intervention and problem solving with project managers, line managers, and clients.

A successful candidate will have experience in the establishment of schedules for early design, detailed design, transition to build, and construction that enable the effective integration of construction activity with the design schedule. The ideal candidate should have thorough knowledge in the following planning areas of program management:

  • Significant experience of schedule development and execution during all program phases (concept, preliminary, detail, construction readiness and execution)

  • Program metrics both quantitative and qualitative to include; cost, schedule (design, construction and vendor), change, and risk.

  • Work Breakdown Structure and Organization Breakdown Structure used to define design & engineering scope.

  • Experience in progress collection and reporting and how they drive performance

  • Experience in developing schedules to support various project management areas

  • Operations agendas along with metric reporting tools and methods

  • Facility and capacity planning

  • Make or buy decisions

In addition, the candidate should:

  • Have an understanding of design output management (e.g. drawings, design disclosures, etc.)

  • Understand and be able to explain the role of planning in scheduling supply chain actions to ensure material availability to support production

  • Be able to communicate through all layers of management

  • Be familiar with the business systems associated with cost, schedule, and resource planning

  • Have a fundamental understanding of the genres of program planning: design, advanced, detail and production control

This position is at the request of Naval Reactors and the UK Ministry of Defense for an assignment at BAE Systems (BAES) in Barrow-in-Furness, United Kingdom. The initial contract period will be two years, with the possibility of annual renewals thereafter. This position is for an Experienced Program Rep (or otherwise qualified individual) to assist BAE Systems for the UK SSNA Submarine Program. This support has been requested to assist BAE in the establishment and support of an End-2-End (E2E) architecture for the SSNA submarine program.

The UK Advisor title indicates that additional qualifications above and beyond the requirements herein will be considered in candidate selection. UK advisors will be expected to step in across the BAE Submarines enterprise to provide expertise within their CV. This position is expected to start in spring/summer 2024 for a minimum of two years with the potential for extension. This position reports to the NGNPP Program Manager on site in Barrow-in-Furness. Relocation to the UK is required . Ability to obtain a DoD Clearance.

Must Have

Bachelor's Degree and 10 years of relevant exempt experience; Master’s Degree and 8 year of relevant professional experience

One of the following may be used as equivalent to Bachelor's Degree to meet minimum qualifications:

  • NNS Apprentice School graduate

  • Navy Nuclear Power School (NNPS) graduate

  • Associate's Degree or other formal 2 year program and 2 years of relevant exempt experience or 4 years of relevant non-exempt experience

  • Military Paygrade E-5 or above military experience

  • High School/GED and 4 years combined of Manufacturing, Shipbuilding, Trades, Military experience or other relevant exempt experience

  • High School/GED and 8 years combined of Manufacturing, Shipbuilding, Trades, Military experience or other relevant non-exempt experience

Nice to Have

  • Ten plus years’ experience in planning in the design/build environment desired

  • Experience in a supervisory/project lead position, especially in planning and/or production control

  • Familiarity with SAP, Primavera and Teamcenter

  • Previous experience in an international program

  • Experience working with NNL, BPMI, and NR.

  • Having knowledge and understanding of the execution system's data hierarchy/inter-relationships and their value-added properties
