Deputy Assistant Secretary for Information and Technology Supervisory IT Specialist (Network) in United States

Summary This position is located in the Core Network Services (CNS), Connectivity and Collaboration Services (CCS), Office of Information and Technology (OIT). The incumbent serves a Supervisor responsible for providing subject matter expertise to the full range of duties associated with one or more IT specialty areas required to support Campus Networking. Responsibilities Duties include but not limited to: Ensures VA Policies are in compliance with regulatory requirements and legislated mandates governing those programs. Provide technical direction to staff and contract team members. Manages engineering, implementation, evaluation and continuous improvement of processes and technology in accordance with management priorities and objectives. Provides supervision and direction to assigned staff on the development of standard operating procedures and technical configuration standards for all LAN environments within CCS and: Performs troubleshooting , maintenance and other configuration changes in accordance with approved change orders in the CCS Network Operations LAN environment. Plans for and implement LAN monitoring and security tools in the accomplishment of CCS goals of standardization, accountability, and mitigation. Performs planning and execution of LAN hardware refresh at all CCS facilities with a life cycle planning approach that achieves operational parity, standardization, and ease of maintenance in a virtual team atmosphere. Provides supervision and direction to assigned staff on the traditional telephony, IP telephony and video teleconferencing environment throughout CCS. Performs analytical assessments on current installed base, recommend next steps, and assume operational responsibility for CCS refresh projects when complete. Performs troubleshooting maintenance and other configuration changes in accordance with approved change orders in the CCS IP telephony environment. Conducts assessments utilizing various monitoring tools to ensure proper voice and video operation availability and security. Provides direct management responsibility for administrative, operational, and planning activities of the staff and programs assigned. Reviews and evaluates the performance of the subordinates. You may qualify based on your experience as described below: Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-12 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: Experience providing technical leadership, oversight and supervision to IT personnel designing, building and supporting data center networks which contain infrastructure such as switches, routers, firewalls, load balancers, and LAN optimization technologies.
