Job Description

The SIM Technical Product Manager is responsible for overseeing the overall use and spend of SIMs related to the Cargo Solutions business. This position must coordinate closely with hardware engineering, software engineering, product management and supply chain to ensure Copelands’ cost-effective procurement of SIMs and data plans. The position must actively audit data usage of SIMs utilized in Cargo products to assure optimal utilization and correct billing. The selection of specific SIMs for use in specific device types is determined by collaborating with product management and engineering.

Job Responsibilities

  • Work with product management and Engineering (HW and SW) to determine normal usage (KB) per device type and reporting interval. Determine worst case scenarios in combination with supplier rate plans to provide realistic margin analysis.

  • Once normal data usage is established, review all existing agreements, and recalculate cost estimates. Work with SW and Finance to update data costs.

  • Maintain and distribute to product management and Engineering updated roaming lists to ensure devices will work in the geographical regions we serve.

  • Seek new opportunities with SIM providers which are advantageous to Copeland.

  • Schedule quarterly meetings on connectivity success.

  • Engage with Technical Services and Customer Success to identify and quantify customer field issues that may be related to roaming issues.

  • Maintain business relationship with all existing SIM providers used in cellular trackers, including but not limited to.

  • Coverage/Roaming Spreadsheets

  • Roaming Partners

  • Cellular Mode

  • Country

  • Raw SIM and data costs for devices in field

  • SIM Active state negotiation, including:

  • Test Stage conditions

  • Active Condition

  • Expiration, transition to active conditions.

  • Business and Technical points of contact

  • Point of contact for emergencies and real-time debug sessions

  • Cost studies and evaluation of new SIM features

  • Investigate competitive SIM providers on an annual basis to yield 2 primary suppliers, considering:

  • SIM Cost reduction

  • Coverage improvements

  • Reliability improvements

  • SIM Qualification and Integration into NPD of new cellular products.

  • Ensure form factor, voltage and temperature level, preproduction verification by Engineering and QA

  • Ensure contract manufacturers proper utilization of SIMs

  • Audit bills and investigate discrepancies between expected data use and actual data use.

  • Leverage data from SIM provider and Oversight to rationalize each cellular bill.

  • Initiate corrective actions on SIM use by device or organization that may have led to excessive SIM data use.

  • Manage SIM costs to budget.

  • Communicate SIM network real-time update information to engineering/QA/tech support.

  • Triage high data alerts and take action to deactivate if necessary. This needs to be directed within a 24/7 work group.

  • Capture and report on high data occurrences to support modifications to our deactivation filters.

Required Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or other technical field

  • 5+ years of IoT/connected product experiences in technical, product management, supply chain, or finance area

  • Strong financial acumen

  • Innovative, data-driven problem solver

Preferred Education and Experience

  • MBA or master’s degree

Flexible Work Schedule – Remote Work Option and Core Hours

This role has the flexibility of a remote work option up to three days a week and a core hour schedule. You can choose to flex your start and stop times given you are working during the core hours of 9:00 AM - 3:00 PM.
