Job Description

The School of Engineering (SOEN) at Texas A&M International University invites applications for two Visiting Assistant Professors of Computer Engineering positions for the 2024-2025 academic year. SOEN is looking for candidates who are passionate about teaching and service. Visiting Assistant Professors at TAMIU receive a standard load of 15 credit hours a semester which may be reduced contingent upon needs and approvals. This is a one-year non-tenure track position.

Texas A&M International University (TAMIU) is a comprehensive regional university and part of The Texas A&M University System. This position requires face-to-face interactions through a regular schedule of attendance on campus and in the workplace. SOEN is searching for candidates who have a robust commitment to hands-on undergraduate engineering education.

Financial support for professional development opportunities, such as attending academic conferences, is also provided. Moving expenses are covered in whole or in part by the university.

Successful candidates will primarily teach courses in the Computer Engineering program which was established in Spring 2021, has thriving enrollment, and had its initial ABET accreditation visit this past November.

Required Qualifications:

Successful candidates must have a Ph.D. Degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related discipline. Applicants close to finishing a Ph.D. will be considered if their degree is conferred before August 16, 2024.

Successful candidates must be able to teach topics such as Digital Electronic Circuit Design, Microprocessor Systems, Electronic Devices and Applications, Signals and Systems, Robotics and Automation, Software Engineering, Algorithms and Data Structures, and lower-level programming and general engineering courses. They must also possess the ability to mentor and advise students working on Senior Design projects and undergraduate research activities. Successful candidates will participate in ABET accreditation activities such as assessment and evaluation of student outcomes and other service activities as needed by SOEN.

In addition to Computer Engineering, the School of Engineering offers two other undergraduate programs in Systems Engineering and Petroleum Engineering. There is also a Pre-Engineering program that is a bridge for transfer to other institutions. Alumni of the School of Engineering have excellent job placement in a wide range of settings, including Fortune 500 companies and various business enterprises, as well as prestigious federal, state, and local government agencies. Some companies and organizations that have hired our graduates in recent years include Lockheed Martin, JP Morgan and Chase, Boeing, USAA, Goldman Sachs, Northrop Grumman, IBM, Microsoft, UPS, NASA, the U.S. Department of Defense, the Texas Department of Transportation, the City of Laredo, and Medline Industries. Furthermore, the School of Engineering has graduates who joined prestigious graduate programs at institutions in Texas and the nation such as Texas A&M University – College Station, the University of Texas at Austin, Columbia University, and the University of Pennsylvania.
