This role requires full time on site presence.

The CBC Yellowknife team is looking to expand our roster of casual talent. Contracts can range in length from a few of weeks to a couple of months as needs arise.

What types of roles do we typically require?

Videographer

Your role

You will perform tasks as a specialist in video production while actively contributing creatively to storytelling by frequently composing distinctive visuals sometimes within the scope and time constraints of the program’s on-air schedule.

We are looking for a candidate who has the following qualifications:

  • Combination of education and experience equivalent to a post-secondary education and 3 years of relevant experience in TV and media arts.

  • Excellent level of technical knowledge and understanding of daily Television News production methods. This includes understanding picture composition and single camera lighting.

  • Ability to operate an Electronic News Gathering (ENG) camera and associated technology such as wireless microphones, lighting equipment, and communication tools.

  • Ability to edit video/audio using non-linear editing technology such as Avid Media Composer in both an office or remote setting.

  • Ability and willingness to handle technical operation (camera/audio/troubleshooting) for remote locations on daily TV newscasts.

  • Strong skills in both picture composition when using the camera as well as content presentation during the editing process.

  • A strong team player with experience and/or willingness to work with new reporters to help them develop their on-camera skills.

  • Ability and willingness to travel to remote locations.

  • Ability to ask scripted questions of people being recorded or interviewed.

  • Must demonstrate leadership skills and the ability to pursue the acquisition of story elements with minimum supervision ensuring a high degree of accuracy, quality and creativity.

  • Experience with LIVE television and daily news is an asset. Must possess a valid driver's license as well as a driving record that meets the minimum requirements of CBC/Radio-Canada's insurance company.

  • Experience with double-ender kits, voice recording devices and iPhones is an asset.

  • Experience with camera work in a studio or multi-camera live environment is an asset.

Associate Producer Technician

The ideal Associate Producer-Technician has an interest in keeping up to date with current events and news happening in the North.

Key Tasks and Qualifications:

  • A combination of experience and education will be considered.

  • You are a problem solver who can solve technical and editorial problems when you encounter them.

  • You will be getting our programming ready to air while keeping in touch with the team to provide support and catch up with stories and events in the region.

  • The Associate Producer – Technician provides an important part of the program support for hosts and other technicians by lining up remotes and keeping equipment lists updated ahead of an event.

  • They also provide technical support and monitor equipment for incoming broadcasts, songs, daily lineup for the morning news.

  • Facilitate communication with members of the audience

  • Organize the participation of interviewees, contributors and other - participants.

  • Technical troubleshooting skills are an asset.

Broadcast Technician

CBC Yellowknife is looking for a bright and energetic Broadcast Technician (Television) to join our team. The successful candidate will ensure the proper operation of technical equipment used in the gathering and presentation video and audio for use on television and digital mediums. The candidate will also ensure the proper operating condition of equipment by making the necessary checks and adjustments according to standard procedures, as well as contribute ideas and make recommendations to overcome problems or achieve desired results.

Key Tasks and Qualifications:

  • A community college graduate in Applied Television Arts or relevant alternative program, or equivalent industry experience.

  • Ability to deal with a live environment with tight time constraints and related stresses while maintaining a professional and respectful attitude is required.

  • Strong organizational skills and ability to handle multiple competing priorities.

  • Knowledge of Avid iNews.

  • Ingesting material from journalists and videographers into the Avid MediaCentral

  • Assisting with transferring material to various storage mediums and electronically transfer to and from other CBC locations.

  • Taking audio and video feeds from various locations via satellite.

  • Clipping items and sending them to on-air presentation systems.

  • Monitoring and resolving issues affecting our various file transfer systems.

For all positions, we are looking for candidates with the following:

  • Knowledge of the North, Indigenous communities, culture and language is desirable.

  • Knowledge of an Indigenous language is an asset.

  • Ability to be flexible and willing to work various shifts, including evenings and weekends, as well as extended hours for unforeseen overtime.

  • Ability to work in a deadline driven environment while maintaining a calm, professional attitude.

  • Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Creative problem solving skills.

  • Demonstrated initiative.
