DEFINITION

Under supervision of the Associate Director of Engagement and Economic Mobility, the Community Engagement Manager assists in building community partnerships and collaborations to strengthen programs and promote community awareness of MAAC’s impact, with an emphasis in North San Diego County.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Establish, develop and manage community relations strategies that support, enrich and expand cross-sector partnerships that support CDP’s community needs assessment priorities. Identify and participate in community outreach events and speaking opportunities to boost MAAC’s visibility, with an emphasis in North San Diego County This includes the coordination and supervision of MAAC’s outreach teams, staff, and volunteers.

  • Collaborate with service area managers about facilitating transition to public school systems

  • Build and Maintain relationships in collaboration with the management team to find supplemental sources of care for families when needed.

  • Develop and maintain relationships with other state funded early education programs to provide options for a variety of family situations and needs[AM1] 

  • Work with management team to determine areas of partnership needed and contribute to development of partnership agreements/MOU's that will enrich our program and create better outcomes for children

  • Communicate regularly with all service areas and determine areas of growth and develop proposals for funding and strategic plans.

  • Identify and participate in community outreach events and speaking engagements to increase MAAC’s visibility in North San Diego County[AM2] 

  • Serves as the liaison between MAAC Child Development and local community colleges and university’s volunteer programs

  • Coordinate and supervise outreach teams, staff, and volunteers.[RO3] 

  • Represent MAAC in collaborative and coalition meetings, including school readiness and school transitions groups

  • Collaborate closely with the Family Engagement (FE) and Family Service Advocates (FSA) teams to coordinate external community resources for families

  • Participate in and contribute to events, workshops, and committee meetings to foster community engagement and encourage active involvement from MAAC families and community stakeholders.

  • Assist management in analyzing family data to plan, organize, and conduct professional development activities to groups of up to 100 participants 

  • Lead the oversight of program governance, specifically the Child Development Policy Council

  • Organize and lead regular Policy Council meetings, providing comprehensive training sessions to ensure members understand their roles and responsibilities

  • Oversee the monthly coordination of diaper distribution programs

  • Maintain up-to-date partner and program information in data management systems to enhance service delivery, referrals, and enrollments.

  • Produce program and impact reports as needed

  • Hire, supervise, coach, and evaluate staff, volunteers, and interns

OTHER DUTIES

  • Prepares or reviews a variety of reports and staff documents.

  • Attends and participates in meetings, conferences, and training sessions; provides expertise, information and assistance to management, staff, parents, outside groups, and individuals.

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS

Knowledge of:

  • Intermediate to advanced Microsoft office skills including Word, Excel, Publisher and PowerPoint applications.

  • Knowledge of CRM system is a plus

  • Effective verbal and written communication

  • Past experience in public speaking and meeting facilitation.

  • Ability to represent MAAC and its interests in public Federal, state, and local laws, regulations, and court decisions applicable to assigned areas of responsibility. Extensive knowledge of San Diego County resources

  • Strong speaking and presentation skills

  • Research methods and analysis techniques

  • Work with a diverse group of stakeholders, including public, private and nonprofit sectors and diverse populations.

  • Analyze and make sound recommendations on community outreach and community engagement issues and strategies.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/CERTIFICATION

A typical way of obtaining the knowledge, skills and abilities outlined above is a:

  • AA Degree in Social Science, Human Development, Marketing, Communications, Public Relations, or a related field required. (BA/BS Degree in Social Science, Human Development, Marketing, Communications, Public Relations, or a related field highly preferred)

  • 2 years of responsible experience in project and/or program management, at least two (1) years of which were in a supervisory or program/project management capacity.

  • Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook

  • Basic knowledge of social media (Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, Twitter),

  • Experience with creating press releases, correspondence, blogs, white papers, statements, website copy, ad campaigns, video text and other documents.

  • Bilingual in Spanish is preferred

HEALTH STATUS

Must have a physical examination, TB clearance and a drug screen by a doctor/clinic designated by MAAC as well as immunization records for influenza*, pertussis and measles as required by state and federal regulations prior to the first day of employment.

Physical Demands

BACKGROUND CLEARANCE

All positions are subject to a background/education check, DMV check, NSOR, exclusion and debarment checks prior to hire and periodically throughout employment as required by various funding sources.

Note: California Start law requires background criminal checks on anyone who works in a licensed childcare facility who is not a client. Must have or obtain a current criminal background check clearance, signed criminal record statement, and signed Acknowledgement to Report Child Abuse form prior to the first day of employment.

TRANSPORTATION

Must have and maintain a valid California Driver’s License, daily use of a personal, insured vehicle, and have and maintain a motor vehicle driving record acceptable to MAAC’s insurance carrier. Incumbents will be enrolled in the California DMV Pull Program.
