City of Bellmead Lift Station Technician I in Waco, Texas

JOB SUMMARY

Under the direction of the Utilities Superintendent, the Lift Station Tech I coordinates the operation and maintenance of multiple lift stations and related facilities assuring the effective processing and transmission of wastewater as required to meet stringent conditions set by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) and the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). Provides support to other departments within Public Works as assigned.

RECEIVES direct supervision from the Utilities Superintendent

Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:

  1. Operations
  • Provides input as required for lift station maintenance budget.
  • Purchase, inventory, and store all spare parts, tools and lift station maintenance supplies.
  • Maintain stock room of consumable parts. Ensure order for easy access and usage.
  • Determine proper workload of equipment to provide efficient and effective operations.
  • Set up daily, weekly, monthly, semi-annual, and annual schedule for lift station maintenance.
  • Monitor priming guides for each lift station for the purpose of efficient and effective operations.
  • Ensure signage at lift stations are clear, accurate, and meet TCEQ regulations.
  • Works directly with outside contractors, vendors, state and federal environmental health officials.
  • Responds to emergency calls after hours, as required, to protect safety and operation of all lift stations as well as any wastewater equipment.
  1. Maintenance
  • Plans and performs preventative maintenance program to minimize equipment wear and unnecessary repairs of lift station equipment.
  • Services, cleans, inspects, and repairs tools, various pumps, motors, machinery, electrical controls and all lift station equipment to ensure they are in safe operating order.
  • Assists in the maintenance and repair of water pump stations and water tower facilities. Specific licensed personnel will be required to be present.
  • Monitor, repair, and maintain Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) equipment and alarm notification systems as needed. Cellular, web-based, and dial-up equipment may be applicable.
  • Monitor and maintain emergency backup generators per Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • Interpret detailed drawings and equipment manuals as required to maintain equipment.
  • Maintain cleanliness, functionality and overall curb appeal of all facilities, including but not limited to mowing, blowing, sweeping, spraying and tree trimming.
  1. Safety
  • Maintain safety regulations to include the use of proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE),
  • wear appropriate clothing, and erect proper barricades and signage.
  • Perform safety inspections of equipment and enforce safety rules and practices on the work site.
  • Perform routine inspections of assigned areas to detect any necessary repairs or hazardous conditions.
  • Utilize proper safety precautions related to all work performed.
  • Must be able to use and maintain a Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA) and gas detection equipment.
  • Safe handling techniques of hazardous chemicals and materials.
  • Safe working practices pertaining to lift station facilities.
  • Must follow lock out/tag out safety procedures for all lift station equipment that is not in operation.
  1. Record Keeping
  • Prepares and files service records of structures, pumps, motors, controls, valves, piping, as well as other lift station equipment.
  • Maintain basic stock reports for most consumable lift station parts, including but not limited to parts from control cabinets, motors and rotating elements, and submersible assemblies.
  • Maintain Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for all aspects of the lift stations ensuring accuracy of responsibilities.
  • Maintain elapsed time meter reading log.
  • Maintain and update quarterly accomplishments log.
  • Maintain and update progressive work plan log.
  • Maintain and update a tool inventory and condition log.
  1. Other Duties
  • May be required to assist in the setup, teardown, and cleanup for special events and meetings.
  • May occasionally be required to work on-call, evenings or weekends.
  • Assist in other departmental operations when needed.
  • Regular and consistent attendance for the assigned work hours is essential.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education, Training and Experience Guidelines:

A High School diploma or equivalent is required.

LICENSES AND/OR CERTIFICATIONS

Must obtain a Class D Collection Class I Wastewater license withing one (1) year from date of hire or date moved to the position.

Must obtain a Class C Collection II Wastewater
