Description of Work

Salary Grade NC08 Salary Range $36,682 - $64,194

This position provides journey level automotive, heavy-duty truck and equipment body repair, maintenance, and repair in accordance with accepted standards and repair practices. This could involve bending, straightening, or replacing body panels, mixing, applying, and shaping body fillers, performing industrial and automotive painting or other substances used in body repair. This position will also require some cutting, shaping, and installing glass panels, along with some automotive interior work as needed for equipment in the DOT fleet. This could involve bending, straightening, or replacing body panels, mixing, applying and shaping body fillers or other substances used in body repair. Sanding and surface preparation prior to painting, mixing paints with the appropriate hardeners or other chemicals and applying finishes to any number of surfaces. Prepare new equipment for use within the 14 highway divisions. This will include but is not limited to installing, bodies on truck chassis, brooms on wheel tractors, mowers on tractors, lights, reflectors, decals, or other safety devices, hydraulic accessories. Other duties as assigned.

  • Knowledge of auto body repair and basic auto mechanic tool usage.

  • Demonstrated ability to shape, bend, and weld body panels along with the proper use of putty, fiberglass, or other chemical mixtures.

  • Demonstrated ability to read and comprehend parts/service manuals, along with parts requisitions and daily time records.

  • Knowledge of techniques and methods involved in determining and solving mechanical problems.

  • Demonstrated ability to follow oral and written instructions.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and two (2) years of experience in the area of assignment, or a sufficient year-for-year combination of education and experience in the repair work to which assigned; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Necessary Special Qualifications May require current certification by the EPA as a Type I, II, III or Universal technician as required by 40 CFR part 82, subpart F.
