Join our company and be part of an innovative team that’s First in Food. Location Description Wakefield is one of the largest production facilities within Michael Foods. We serve as a flex plant and are able to produce everything from a whole pasteurized egg to liquid, dried, hardboiled and curds. Responsibilities POSITION SUMMARY: The Lead Person is responsible for working with the department supervisor. S/he will train new and existing personnel, help ensure a safe work environment and assign work tasks to department personnel. S/he will adhere to safe work practices, follow GMP’s, maintain sanitary conditions and ensure that product quality is maintained. This position always has the responsibility to comply with Safety work rules as well as an obligation to reinforce Safety as a Core Value. Ensures that all policies, procedures and activities, related to Food Safety & Quality, are followed and complied with uniformly, to reduce product and process variability. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Assists in training processing and production personnel in assigned department. Assists supervisor with updating training for existing personnel whenever equipment changes are instituted, or new procedures are implemented. Assigns work tasks to department personnel. Assists with safety audits. Helps maintain control records related to processing Maintains effective working relationship between members of department and other areas. Continually monitors lines for quality product and notifies all appropriate personnel if discrepancy is found. Monitors processing equipment on a continual basis to maintain proper production standards. Reports and fills out notifications for maintenance issues as they relate to productivity, food safety, quality and human safety. Encourages suggestions from employees to improve productivity, quality or control cost of production. Maintains accurate downtime records and daily shift report of all equipment in assigned area. Accurately and timely completes daily paperwork, SAP (System Applications Product in Data Processing), PEB and Bill of Lading as needed. Operates forklift and pallet jack as needed. Follows proper SOP’s (Standard Operation Procedures) Assumes personal responsibility to insure safe and healthy workplace for everyone. Adhere to all safety policies and procedures and, incorporate safety and health in all jobs and tasks. Adhere to Quality work practices, follow GMP’s, maintain sanitary conditions and ensure that product quality is maintained. Report to management any conditions or practices that may adversely affect food safety and quality. Able to work weekends, holidays and overtime as needed. Insures regulatory compliance at all times. Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications EDUCATION AND EXPEREINCE REQUIRED High school diploma or general education degree (GED) or equivalent. PREFERRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS: Previous forklift and/or pallet jack experience desired. Bilingual in Spanish is a plus. Associate’s degree (AA) or equivalent combination of education, training and/or experience. Must have basic computer skills (excel, word, etc) Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals in English. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups, customers/vendors or employees of the organization. Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs. Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, and diagram or schedule form. Must have excellent communication, interpersonal and team building skills. Able to direct, train and motivate department personnel. Ability to recognize problem situations, investigate and take appropriate steps to resolve. Ability to work in cold, wet, noisy, dusty and humid environments. Demonstrates the ability to maintain positive interpersonal relationships and work effectively with others to complete work assignments. Able to work independently or with others in a team environment depending upon the assignment. Self-motivated while also willing to ask questions and seek direction. Displays responsible behavior at work. Open to change. Ability to obtain and maintain a forklift and pallet jack license. Must be able to work overtime or weekends when required.
