South County Hospital Executive Director of Operations in Wakefield, Rhode Island

Job Summary

The Executive Director of Operations serves under the direction of the COO/CNO managing systems of operation and accountability, ensuring the effective and efficient operations of ancillary and contracted service operations throughout the healthcare system, informing and executing strategic operational objectives consistent with South County Health’s strategic plan, mission, vision, and values. The Executive Director of Operations provides oversight and direction of operational strategies and process improvement through direction of staff, contracted services, and execution of operational initiatives to advance the system’s performance. In addition, the Executive Director of Operations is accountable for controlling costs while continuously improving the quality of services provided to patients through streamlining budgets and maintaining adequate levels of service and quality. He/She provides leadership, guidance, and support to operational departments across the healthcare continuum and partners effectively through direct line authority and influence to execute on organizational objectives.

Core Duties:

  • Oversees day-to-day operations for ancillary and contracted service operations.

  • In collaboration with the COO/CNO defines and effectively implements operational strategy, structure, and processes integrating principles of continuous quality improvement, Lean/Six Sigma, and effective project management.

  • Recruits and retains a high performing leadership team and effectively holds them accountable to achieving aligned organizational goals in each department of oversight. Effectively addresses goal variances by assessing execution, tactics, or personnel to consistently and proactively fill performance gaps.

  • Consistently demonstrates command of operations through course correction, appropriate escalation, and proactive management.

  • Develops and implements organizational structure to support effective and efficient operations as well as new programming for service integration ensuring quality and elimination of duplication

  • Manage quarterly and annual budgeting process & P&L responsibilities

  • Monitor performance to proactively, consistently identifying efficiency and quality concerns with solution-oriented action plans

  • Coordination and management of clinical and non-clinical contracted services

  • Interview, hire, train, develop, and monitor operational management

  • Facilitates Monthly Operating Review with Operations Team, Providing monthly performance updates to the COO/ CNO

  • Leads by example, exhibiting all core values of SCH.

  • Partners effectively across the organization to accomplish personal objectives as well as assist other leaders in accomplishing their objectives.

  • Proactively and effectively manages all contracted services to ensure vendors are in compliance with contractual obligations. Creates scorecards for each service that reflect critical key performance indicator and works effectively with vendor to effectively and efficiently address performance gaps.

  • Oversees and implements and effective project management function for the organization.

  • Creates effective and efficient Access operations to ensure optimal and multi-modal access to all services of oversight that achieve benchmark performance across all areas of the organization.

  • Optimally manages organizational space utilization, inclusive of all leased services to consistently in pursuit of highest/best use of organizational space assets.

  • Optimizes ancillary volumes through identification of growth opportunities, enhancing community referral relationships, and benchmark throughput and efficiency in operations.

  • Creates near and long-term capital plan for achievement of operational objectives while integrating organization value of stewardship.

    Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree, MBA, MHA preferred

  • 5-10 years supervisory experience in operations or related field

  • Multi-team management experience

  • Previous P&L responsibility

    Preferred Qualifications/Additional Skill

  • MBA, MAC or equivalent graduate degree preferred

  • Advanced degree in business administration, healthcare management, or related field strongly preferred.

  • Leadership experience within a community-based health system is preferred.

  • Demonstrated success and expertise in operations management, including past successes improving quality, financial performance, market share, growth, service levels and staff engagement.

  • Demonstrated experience in improving and maintaining high levels of patient care quality and satisfaction.

  • Strong healthcare financial management skills and expertise with a track record for sustaining and improving financial performance within a challenging fiscal environment.

  • Proven successes overseeing operational and clinical functions
