Work Arrangement​​

This role is categorized as onsite. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to the Design Center in Warren, MI on a full-time basis.

The Role

General Motors is seeking a Dock Operations & Logistics Coordinator to oversee one of the docks at our Creative Design facility. In this role, you will supervise a mid-sized group of U.A.W. employees involved in the Design Center Strategic “A” Maintenance Department overseeing dock operations and logistics. We are seeking someone with the right technical skills who can also foster an atmosphere of teamwork and cooperation.

What You'll Do:

  • Supervise U.A.W. Material Service Operator’s (MSO’s)

  • Provide a Leadership role in the implementation of major department initiatives while coordinating activities efficiently, manage schedules, and prioritize tasks to ensure timely material flow

  • Maintain awareness of quality standards, communicate department quality goals and drive problem solving issues for throughput

  • Build and maintain good working relationships with Design Operation employees (including Union and Management) as well as other dock operations

  • Ensure lean material strategies including material flow, material routings, storage space requirements, mobile equipment, layout development, container development, storage areas, route planning, and dock strategies

  • Analyze existing operations and propose continuous improvements including technology and innovative ideas optimizing floor space, materials, personnel, and equipment

  • Comply with DOT, DG, ISO & shipping requirements (shippers & export compliance)

  • Ensure compliance with Hazardous materials

  • Utilize Labor Relations in accordance with Corporate Policies and Procedures and Government Regulations

  • Understand and consistently administer the National and Local U.A.W. agreements

  • Motivate, train and develop salaried and hourly employees to effectively perform their jobs utilizing standardized methods

  • Promote safe work practices and achieve objectives for ergonomics, health and safety and housekeeping standards (Workplace Organization)

  • Communicate between shifts, departmental areas and other departments to implement best practices, resolve problems and sustain consistent performance to objectives

  • Coordinate and work with hourly team leader to manage dock operations

  • Control costs and achieve productivity improvements

  • Manage hourly GM Kronos payroll and perform other administrative tasks, as required

  • Participate in floor safety reviews and conduct safety inspections

  • Lead and facilitate Safety Incident report investigations

  • Meet all timing, quality and cost requirements

  • Interpret verbal design direction

  • Standardize material flow, material handing processes and measure compliance

  • Prioritize work requests, track materials & associated material locations

Additional Job Description

Qualifications:

  • 2+ years of experience in dock maintenance and export compliance

  • Understanding of the processes and operations involved in the dock management, such as loading and unloading procedures, process flow, equipment functionality and maintenance

  • Working knowledge of GMS - Global Manufacturing Systems

  • Experience with software applications including Maximo, Corrigo, Kronos, and Intelex

  • Demonstrate high level of interpersonal skills to effectively lead, motivate and facilitate others in group situations. Proficiency in team building and ability to create an environment that allows for measured risk taking

  • Demonstrate ability to effectively organize, prioritize and execute in a fast-paced environment

  • Knowledge of work standards, ergonomic principles, materials organization and facility layout strongly preferred

  • Proficiency in SharePoint, Microsoft Outlook & Microsoft Office Tools (Excel, Word, and PowerPoint)

  • College degree or equivalent training (1 to 3 years (UAW) Hourly Supervision Experience)

  • Ability to work 2nd shift as required

  • Available to work Saturday and Sunday’s as required

  • Ability to walk and stand for extended periods
