General Motors Senior Process Engineer - Battery Cell Factory Automation in Warren, Michigan

Work Arrangement

Hybrid - This position requires the employee to be onsite minimum of 3 days per week.

The Role

The Battery Cell Factory Automation team is looking for talented and self-driven individuals to fill a Senior Process Engineering role focused on developing factory automation systems. As a Senior Process Engineer, you would be responsible for developing, communicating, and assuring compliance to the global Bill of Process (BOP) and Bill of Equipment (BOE) for the battery cell automation. This position requires sound technical knowledge and expertise related to the functional area of responsibility. You will need prior experience and/or knowledge of designing automation systems utilizing conveyors, robots, automated storage and retrieval systems (ASRS) and autonomous mobile robots (AMR).

Additionally, the role provides technical leadership and guides the team to successful execution of battery cell programs; develops new smart factory products, processes, standards, or operational plans in support of the organization's business strategies with a direct impact on business objectives. You will also influence others within the organization to accept new concepts, practices, and approaches. This an outstanding opportunity to work on leading edge technology as part of the electrification of transport.

This role is a part of our Global Propulsion Systems organization for manufacturing engineering. Work is performed in a team environment where you will have regular interactions with other manufacturing engineering centers such as Lean Material Strategies (LMS), Plant Engineering, Electric Vehicle Occupational Safety (EVOS), and the Controls Standards team. This position will be based out of the General Motors Global Technical Center in Warren, MI.

What You'll Do

  • Development of turnkey automation solutions including development and approval of factory automation equipment specifications

  • Work with equipment suppliers on design, build, validation, and start-up of automation equipment

  • Facilitate ME deliverables including implementation of equipment specifications and MARO

  • Provide guidance on global regulatory compliance

  • Provides technical support to product teams, manufacturing engineering and production facilities.

  • Optimization of cell manufacturing layout of full-service automation systems

  • Support construction teams with specifications on fire suppression, building and facility requirements for assembly processes

  • Develop strategies for implementation of AI-led smart manufacturing software and technology

  • Interface with leadership and support development of battery cell manufacturing strategies

  • Support start-up and ramp up of manufacturing plants

Additional Job Description

Your Skills and Abilities ( Required Qualifications)

  • 7+ years of in Manufacturing Process Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or Information Technology

  • Knowledge of Advance Product Quality Planning (APQP) & PFMEA, Process Control Plans, BoP, and BoE

  • Basic knowledge of Global Powertrain Development Process (GPDP) and process of execution

  • Experience in troubleshooting equipment

  • Strong Analytical and Problem-Solving Skills (Plan-Do-Check-Act (PDCA), DMAIC, Six Sigma, Red-X, etc.)

  • Process knowledge of Cylindrical and/or Prismatic and/or Pouch architectures​

  • Bachelor's degree with Major in Mechanical Engineering, Information Technology or equivalent

What Will Give You a Competitive Advantage (Preferred Qualifications)

  • Master’s degree in Engineering and/or Information Technology

  • Experience in developing new processes for battery cells

  • 7+ years of industry experience in manufacturing engineering and/or Information Technology with a focus on battery cell manufacturing or warehouse management

  • Strong knowledge of lean manufacturing
