Bon Secours Mercy Health RN (Registered Nurse) Coordinator Cardiovascular Clinical - St. Joseph Warren in Warren, Ohio

The RN Clinical Coordinator is a critical care registered nurse with current license in the State of Ohio and ACLS credentials and is responsible for the delivery and co-ordination of care provided to patients undergoing procedures within the Cardiac Services areas. The RN Clinical Coordinator functions in a leadership and support role to the staff within the Cardiac Services departments.

The RN Clinical Coordinator supervises and co-ordinates the daily operations of the Noninvasive Cardiology Labs and provides nursing supervision to the staff in Stress and Echo Labs for both inpatients and outpatients. May also perform other related patient duties as assigned. Must be able to communicate well with all persons. Must have a working knowledge of all aspects of the philosophy, guest relations and organizational expectations of the organization. This individual talks to doctors, nurses and other health care workers, patients, secretaries, and the public. Diplomacy and telephone manners are always essential to promote favorable guest relations. Communicates and consults with Department Manager.

  1. Coordinates Stress Lab/Echo/ EKG departments to administer the daily schedule in a cost efficient and customer friendly manner.

a. Collaborates with staff/scheduling secretary in review of the schedule for early problem identification.

b. Makes changes in the schedule that minimize conflicts with instrumentation and staffing in a manner fair and consistent to all staff with patient care as direct focus.

c. Assists in making assignments and adjustments as needed.

d. Manages the interdepartmental communication with respect to coordination of the daily schedule. Communicates changes appropriately.

  1. In collaboration with the Nurse Manager, coordinates the activity of personnel to insure the adherence of standards of care.

a. Controls throughput of patient testing in cooperation with the staff.

b. Facilitates the timely transportation of patients.

c. Monitors utilization of personnel and facilities with respect for productivity.

d. Makes rounds and maintains awareness of the patient flow through the areas.

  1. Promotes contiguous, seamless, patient care.

  2. Supports and enforces hospital policies and procedures as well as instructs and corrects deviation from policy/procedure as indicated.

  3. In cooperation with Dept. Manager, establishes clinical department procedures, continually revises current procedures, adapts, and demonstrates new procedures and methods of operations to ensure consistency with the mission, philosophy, and practices of SEHC.

  4. Encourages educational development, maintains appropriate channels of communication and chain of command, assure that all studies are interpreted in a timely manner and communicates with department manager. Oversees orientation of new staff.

  5. Formulates and conducts tracking method for department performance improvement within the standards set forth by organization.

  6. Prepares and enters staff schedules into electronic scheduling system, edits and signs off electronic payroll.

Performs the duties of Stress Lab RN

Performs Cardiac exams such as Treadmill and Non-treadmill Stress testing as well as assist in transesophageal echocardiograms or echocardiograms requiring contrast media when needed.

  1. Explains the purpose and the procedure of the test to the patient. When necessary, provides demonstration.

  2. Acts in a calm and professional manner in all situations and especially with high risk or unstable patients. Responds to emergency situations and stat orders as required.

  3. Performs test as ordered with accuracy.

  4. Maintains appropriate records and reports.

  5. Is proficient in interpretation of ECG monitor tracings and monitoring equipment.

  6. Is proficient in the use of the defibrillator for emergency defibrillation and electro cardioversion.

  7. Assumes accountability and responsibility for own work performance while performing duties in an independent manner.

  8. Observes assigned work schedules and hours necessary to cover the department. Will be available for rotating weekend call.

  9. Provides a safe environment for self, patients, and physician through continued alertness to safety, explosive and nuclear hazards as well as aseptic technique.

  10. Uses equipment in the most efficient manner and reports any discrepancies.

  11. Reports equipment failures or malfunctions.

  12. Assists in the evaluation of all cardiac activities including patient care given, with proper technique and practices used according to accepted standard of practice.

  13. Cooperates with all personnel in the proper conduct of the department. Maintains ethical relationships.

  14. May be requested to assist in the development of techniques for procedures.

  15. Assist in the use of a variety of equipment and procedures not routinely assigned.

  16. May transport patient to and from the department section if the need arises. May perform clerical and technical related duties regarding better patient care.

  17. Checks equipment, accessories, and supplies. Keeps areas always stocked, cleans equipment after each patient use and cleans the rooms daily.

  18. Assists others in the department who may request assistance when necessary and demonstrates a team approach to patient care.

  19. Assists in developing the skills of students, trainees, or Residents.

  20. Participates in research studies/data collection assuring complete and accurate documentation.

  21. May perform other related duties as assigned.

EDUCATION, SPECIALIZED AND/OR TECHNICAL KNOWLEDGE REQUIREMENTS:

Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing

Current licensure in the State of Ohio

3-5 years Cardiac Telemetry Nursing experience

ACLS certification

Previous experience in Cardiac Stress Lab preferred.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL:

(Knowledge and skill required to perform the job responsibilities for both technical and dimensional content.)

• Basic knowledge of specific cardiovascular testing, anatomy/physiology, and diseases.

• Applies advanced knowledge/experience to develop new methods, programs, and procedures.

• Ability to manage emergency situations, advance ECG interpretation.

• Good manual dexterity in physical assessment and operation of equipment.
