Smithsonian Institution Audiovisual Production Specialist in Washington, District Of Columbia

Summary The Smithsonian Institution is the world’s largest museum, education, and research complex, with 21 museums and the National Zoo. This position is located in the New Media Initiatives, Web and Media, Public Engagement, Museum Research and Scholarship Department, National Museum of the American Indian (NMAI). NMAI is committed to advancing knowledge and understanding of the Native cultures of the Western Hemisphere, past, present and future, through partnership with Native people and others. Responsibilities More than one selection may be made from this announcement. The Audiovisual Production Specialist is responsible for designing and producing all of the Museum's video and audio media products, exercising project management, and overseeing contracts for all audiovisual products, supplies and services. In this position, you will: Design and produce media in the form of videos, interactive media, audio interpretation, multi-screen and immersive environments. Provide pre and postproduction advice and services for programs, work to create accessible media per standards defined in the American with Disabilities Act of 1990, organizing the transcripts, captions, and audio description for media products. Provide compression, color correction of images and video as well as audio mastering of media products as needed. Work with curators and staff developing content and defining scope, requirements, and deliverables. Serve as the primary point of contact and as an integrated part of project teams for the NMAI Highlights Audio Guide. Procure services, equipment and supplies, write statement of work, and manage contracts for media production services. Serve as the Media department point of contact to ensure that the department is consistently archiving and organizing it's assets. Qualifications Undergraduate and Graduate Education: Major study - photography, radio or television production, motion picture production, or other fields related to the position. Advanced training in a vocational school, technical institute, or art institute above the high school level in one of the fields listed above is creditable as general experience on a month-for-month basis. OR Experience: Experience in the actual type of work for which application is made. Unpaid experience is creditable, provided the work done was of a quality level and demonstrated the ability required for the position. This includes work directly connected with the production aspects of the field(s) of the position to be filled. In addition to the basic qualification requirement above: Experience: You qualify for this position if you have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-09 level in the Federal Service. For this position, specialized experience is defined as experience designing and producing videos, interactive media, audio interpretation, and immersive environments; pre and postproduction planning, archiving standards and best practices; video compression, color correction, audio mastering techniques; utilizing the Adobe Creative suite of products; and working with the indigenous people of the western hemisphere and or Native cultures and protocols. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Part-time and/or unpaid experience related to this position will be considered to determine the total number of years and months of experience.
