Summary This position serves as a Budget Analyst in the Justice Management Division, Budget Staff, Legal Activities Group (LAG) located in Washington, DC. The Budget Staff has principal departmental responsibility for the development, direction and execution of Department-wide program budget operations; Department-wide funds control; and planning and conduct of program budget review efforts throughout the Department to assist top level officials in the assessment of objectives and efficiency. The duties and responsibilities for a Budget Analyst generally include, but are not limited to, the following: Developing justifications of budget estimates for assigned activities mission, functions, and operations. Implementing policies and procedures governing budget formulation, budget execution, financial management, and administrative control of funds. Monitoring budget execution activities. Developing procedural guidelines for assigned programs for the preparation of budget estimates. Interpreting local budgetary calls. Performing budget estimation activities using predetermined formulas. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications To qualify for the position of Budget Analyst at (GS-0560-12/13), you possess the required specialized experience specific to this series and grade you're applying to. If you are a current or former government employee on a permanent appointment in the competitive service, you will need to demonstrate 1-year (52-weeks) at the next lower grade level, to meet the time-in-grade requirements for this occupational series and grade. Additionally, please ensure to submit an applicable SF50 (please refer to the "required documents" section for additional information). Specialize Experience: For the GS-12, you must have one year of specialized experience at the GS-11 grade level or equivalent pay band in the Federal Service, which includes: Developing budget processes or procedures; Preparing budget estimates; AND Preparing a variety of financial reports (e.g. status of funds, expenses, and obligations). Specialize Experience: For the GS-13, you must have one year of specialized experience at the GS-12 grade level or equivalent pay band in the Federal Service, which includes: In depth knowledge and understanding of concepts, principles, practices, laws, and regulations of budget or financial related programs or services; Developing guidance or procedures on budget formulation and execution; AND Resolving budgetary issues or problems.
