Requirements

The Data Programmer provides innovative software solutions to complex functional problems for all ATra® Black Box related projects. S/he provides software development programming for software releases of the ATra® Black Box and researches, develops, and integrates the technical designs from the ATra® Black Box Chief Research Scientist, following grant-mandated schedules and engaging clients in the implementation of new functional enhancements to the ATra® Black Box software. In particular, this position will focus on SAS programming to facilitate the generating and upload of reports from the Black Box into a useable format by jurisdictions. Additional duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Contribute technical content to new grant proposals, grant reports, and manuscripts for publications.

  • Attend professional meetings and provide product demonstrations of the ATra® Black Box software.

  • Serve as a technical support on the ATra® Black Box to technical and non-technical staff on ATra® Black Box project teams.

  • Work with the Chief Research Scientist on ATra® technical design and software development.

  • Interface with jurisdictions to understand and implement their needs.

  • Work with the Director of the Health Data Analytics Program on all aspects of implementation and functionality of the ATra® Black Box.

Work Interactions

The position will work independently but in close collaboration under the general direction of the OSVPR Director of the Health Data Analytics Program and in consultation with the OSVPR Chief Research Scientist of the AvesTerra Initiative. The position will also work in collaboration with the non-technical and technical staff members of multiple project teams and the end user clients (customers) of the ATra® Black Box. These clients are subject matter experts in infectious disease, state and local government public health departments, and federal government agencies, including the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). The position will also collaborate with technical staff in UIS.

Requirements and Qualifications

  • M.S. in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent work experience

  • General knowledge of algorithms development, data structures, database systems, operating systems, computer security, data communications, formal language theory, encryption, and computer programming

  • Software development experience with Ada, Python, Java, C/C++, Swift, or Rust is important. SAS programming experience is critical

  • Experience with formal methods, program proof-of-correctness techniques, and/or high-assurance systems development

  • Excellent speaking and writing skills with good command of computerized word processing, presentation preparation and desktop publishing

  • Ability to document and explain technical processes to multiple audiences

  • Ability to translate quantitative and qualitative findings into narratives for publication and other effective tools to communicate findings to other scientists, funding agencies, and the general public

  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to work with faculty, collaborators, and stakeholders from a variety of disciplines, organizations and business sectors, including other universities and national laboratories as well as governmental, non-governmental, and community-based organizations

Preferred Requirements and Qualifications

  • Experience working with subject matter specialists in public health jurisdictions and federal agencies

  • Proficiency in Ada 2012 computer programming language for a production system

  • Significant experience in the entire software development lifecycle for a critical production system, including defining requirements for new functionality, implementation, quality assurance, and software maintenance

Pay Range:

The projected salary or hourly pay range for this position which represents the full range of anticipated compensation is:

$54,616.00 - $100,493.33

Compensation is determined by a number of factors including, but not limited to, the candidate’s individual qualifications, experience, education, skills, and certifications, as well as the University’s business needs and external factors.
