    Job Summary

    Newberry Group's IT Managed Services team is seeking a Field Engineer II to support its Commercial client base in the Washington DC metro and Northern Virginia area. The applicant must be self-motivated, outgoing and a Team player. You will be working directly with our Tier 1 Service Desk to provide guidance and support. Additionally, you will engage directly with clients in the field as a Tier 2 escalation point. You will also be responsible for executing against work plans to deploy, configure, and implement solutions within the client environment. Local travel daily in and around the Washington DC metro, and Northern Virginia areas.

    Candidates must live in the Washington DC area. The candidate will be assigned to a client’s facility in downtown Washington DC.

    Responsibilities and Duties

    Specific responsibilities include the following competencies:

  • Performs Tier 2 triage and resolution within established response times.

  • Develops knowledge of multiple clients and their software, hardware, and environments that we support.

  • Maintains network integrity and connectivity while ensuring compliance with policies and maintains system backup and recovery capability.

  • Leads network technology upgrade or expansion projects, including installation of hardware, software and integration testing, as well as coordinating these activities without disturbing function of other systems.

  • Completes project-based work against firm deadlines.

  • Troubleshoots network, server, and computer system problems remotely and in the field.

  • Deploys computers and systems to client networks, either remotely, onsite, or in a Cloud-based scenario.

  • Accurately documents troubleshooting steps and resolutions within a ticketing system.

  • Recognizes the need to escalate the issue/problem to proper Newberry or Vendor Engineering Support Team members when resolution is beyond your ability or availability.

  • Ability to expand your current knowledge base and skill set to incorporate new technologies.

  • Prioritize and resolve issues based on client impact. Reinforces SLAs to manage end-user expectations.

  • Comprehensive understanding of network security policies and practice.

  • Local travel daily in and around the Washington DC metro and Northern Virginia area.

    Basic Qualifications and Skills Required

    Active Directory. MS Exchange, Office 365, all modern versions of Microsoft Windows Server and desktop, Hyper-V, IP Networking to include network devices (firewall, switch, etc) and workstation/printer configuration and troubleshooting, Critical thinking, Problem Solving, ability to work on your own.

  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in required skills listed above.

  • Ability to provide technical support over the phone or in person. Examples of required technical support skills include but are not limited to:

  • Physical and virtual server configuration and troubleshooting;

  • Troubleshoot and configure IP Networking settings on workstations, servers, and firewalls;

  • Troubleshoot and configure remote access, such as through VPN or Remote Desktop Protocol; and

  • Troubleshoot anti-virus and anti-spam alerts to the root cause.

  • Must have dependable transportation.

  • Must be able to work weekends and after-hours as necessary.

  • Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to manage, schedule, and prioritize multiple tasks.

  • Ability to work individually as required and as a member of a team.

  • Ability to deliver results and meet customer expectations.

  • Ability to work under pressure against deadlines.

  • Demonstrates a positive, collaborative approach.

  • Exceptional written and oral communication skills.

  • Exceptional interpersonal skills, with a focus on listening and questioning skills.

  • Proficient in English language skills.

  • Must be able to pass a background check and drug test.

    Preferred Qualifications and Skills

  • Microsoft Azure, VMWare, Linux, troubleshooting MAC workstations, Wi-Fi access point and endpoint configuration and troubleshooting.

  • Thorough understanding of networking principles, DNS, DHCP, VPNs, basic routing, switches and gateways.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Information Systems or equivalent.
