Actalent Pharmacy Technician in Washington, District Of Columbia

Description:

  • Assists the Pharmacist in preparing and distributing medications to patients

  • Performs designated technical functions to facilitate pharmacy operations

  • Under the supervision of the licensed Pharmacist, prepares oral, topical, and all parenteral medications for dispensing to patients, including the selection, labeling, and packaging of appropriate pharmaceuticals using appropriate IV equipment, and filling of medication carts

  • Enters physician orders into the hospital computer system to update/edit patient profiles and charges

  • Assists patients, nurses, physicians, and others with medication order requests and pharmacy related needs

  • Monitors stock inventory levels and medication expiration dates for pharmacy areas and replenishes medications as needed

  • Conducts monthly/periodic inspections of patient care/department areas

  • Fills and replaces medications in the automated medication dispensing machines and transports to appropriate nursing unit(s)

  • Prepares IV admixtures using aseptic techniques, including STATS, parenteral nutrition bags, and cytotoxic agents

  • Delivers and retrieves medications, including narcotics, and pharmacy supplies to/from patient care and satellite pharmacy areas

  • Compounds products in bulk, or per individual order, and prepares private stock orders and individual unit-of-use packaging, when not otherwise available

  • Completes and maintains controlled substance inventory log/records

Additional Skills & Qualifications:

1 years of hospital experience Required

1 year of Oncology/Chemo Required

DC Department of Health (DOH) registration Required

Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) or equivalent national certification

Requires ability to read and write, knowledge of grammar, medical terminology, and proficiency in basic mathematics, including fractions and decimal, and keyboard skills

May require the use of standard office/medical equipment (i.e., typewriter, personal computer, data terminal, on-line printer, calculator, telephone, facsimile, copier and sterilizing equipment); the preparation, comparison or checking of reports, records and related data; and basic use of formulas, charts, tables, drawings and knowledge of their application
