Policy Planning coordinates and manages contributions to domestic and international working groups, analyzes longer-term fundamental shifts in the policy environment, and keeps policy leaders informed on forward-looking topics. Primary responsibilities of the role: * Help build the technical infrastructure that provides the ability to identify topics and trends that may have a medium-term impact on banks, the broader economy, and international coordination. * Collaborate within the Section to develop techniques to more rapidly visualize impactful results. * Develop repeatable data analyses, visualizations, or workflow automation routines to identify signals of change in the economic, social and technological environment by integrating data from outside sources, sectors, and fields. Learning objectives for the intern: * Direct application of data science and data visualization tools to the policy making process * Use NLP tools to process large amounts of text data, extract key topics, and produce relevant charts and visualizations * Understanding of S&R strategy and workflow * Exposure to S&R policy leaders Significant Coursework in Computer Science, Data Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Economics, or Statistics, Economics, or a related field. * Coursework in Economics, Finance, and Public Policy are a plus. Key competencies: * Must be proficient in at least two of the following programming languages: Python, R, or Stata. * Experience building natural language processing (NLP) tools, accessing structured and unstructured data via application programming interfaces (APIs) and/or web scrapping technology, and leveraging NLP and/or generative artificial intelligence for data analysis are all a plus. * Demonstrated experience in building visualizations, including dashboards, interactive websites, and/or standalone reports. * Experience creating and evolving physical and logical data models; creating diagrams and technical documentation; contributing to the development of data management and governance practices; and expanding data security and privacy controls. Preference for a college senior or graduate student pursuing a quantitative degree.
