BCycle aims to change the world, community by community, by developing the bike share systems that are getting more people on bikes. A fully owned subsidiary of Trek Bicycle, BCycle develops and delivers the bikes, stations, and software that power bike share systems across the US. Position Description

We are looking for an experienced and motivated mechanical engineer to help develop our bike share products, including ebikes, charging stations, and IoT accessories. This engineer will work alongside a talented group of engineers and designers to improve and expand BCycle’s product line up.

This role is expected to be a flexible hybrid role with two to three days a week in the office, depending on project needs.

Position responsibilities

  • Lead the technical design and development from concept phase to production.

  • Proactively research innovative products and technologies to find the best methods of integration with our products.

  • Work with product team to develop functional specifications that exceed customer expectations.

  • Assist in troubleshooting current products and processes.

  • Lead continuous improvement projects to deliver more robust, efficient, and cost-effective products.

  • Help BCycle lead in bike share by creating meaningful and innovative sustainability solutions.

  • Work directly with our compliance team to ensure our product complies with industry and governing agency requirements.

    Technical Position Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or mechanical engineering technology with 7+ years of experience in product development.

  • Experience engineering mechanical systems that contain integrated electronic modules that meet various IP ratings .

  • Understanding of how to design plastic components with considerations of manufacturing process constraints, resin property, fitment, and fastening.

  • Experience using CAD modeling software (Onshape preferred) to create 3D models and 2D engineering drawings, including the ability to understand and apply GD&T methodology.

  • Strong knowledge in structural analysis, design failure risk analysis, test plan creation, test result trouble shooting, and creation of technical documentation & reporting.

  • Experience with bicycle or ebike design and/or maintenance.

  • Bonus if you have experience designing for manufacturing using carbon and aluminum, tube forming, welding, forging, CNC, and casting along with a basic understanding of manufacturing costs.
