Abbott Rapid Diagnostics (formerly Alere) is part of Abbott’s Diagnostics family of businesses, bringing together exceptional teams of experts and industry leading technologies to support diagnostic testing which provides important information for treatment and management of diseases and other conditions. We have an exciting opportunity for a FP&A Manager, R&D within our Abbott Rapid Diagnostics located at the Westbrook, Maine facility or Lake Forest, IL . This role serves as a critical business advisor and partner to the head of the R&D. Provides sound business counsel and enables the strategic vision of the business unit by advocating spending as an investment, not an expense. Effectively balances business unit investment needs/ROI with division/corporate investment needs/ROI. Interprets root causes to issues and actively seeks solutions to problems through sound financial analysis. Brings the numbers to life through forecast accuracy and presentation of financial information to non-financial audiences. Focuses on business strategies to achieve goals rather than report outcomes. Continuously ensures organizational alignment on key action items.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provides financial, business, and strategic insight to senior management on key business decisions facing business unit (i.e. product valuation analyses (NPVs)

  • Develops business plans, updates, monthly and quarterly forecast and LRPs for the business unit, including supporting rationale. Ensure the business plan is sound, achievable and without any significant disconnects. Provides management with periodic, concise updates.

  • Effectively presents financial and non-financial information to division and corporate leadership

  • Challenges current thinking through thoughtful analysis of key issues and trends

  • Simplifies complexity of issues by highlighting variances and facilitating an understanding of key business drivers and future decision making

  • Applies financial/accounting rigor to processes and procedures; understands business unit market dynamics and resulting financial implications; evaluates and makes known business risks and opportunities based on financial analyses

  • Monitor the progress/performance/efficiency/effectiveness of the organization and make recommendations.

  • Additional Responsibilities:

  • Ad hoc analyses for leadership

  • Support PMO - R&D Project Resource Planning and investing

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

  • BS in Finance, Accounting, or related business administration degree

  • 7+ years of experience in accounting or financial planning and analysis

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • MBA is preferred

  • Financial leadership experience

  • Possesses experience in the areas of financial reporting/accounting, supply chain/manufacturing/operations, core financial process management, brand/BU financial management, forecasting/budgeting/planning/analysis, operations accounting, internal control procedures, balance sheets, and audit support.

  • Exposure to due diligence process, international business, and resource/capacity planning is a plus.

  • Complexity and pace of business - Understand business priorities, emerging competitive landscapes and evolving business models and initiatives; exposure to international business; maintain long-term vision for the business unit

  • Deal evaluation and due diligence - Understand components and impact on cash flows

  • System strategy – Knowledge of creative process flow to improve efficiency and quality

  • Integrity of financials – Possess working understanding of SOX; regulatory/compliance appreciation; apply controls consistently
