Job Title: Safety Specialist

Job Summary : The Safety Specialist will support the Senior Safety Professional in the development and execution of a comprehensive safety program for our stores and Wawa Beverage Company (WBC) to ensure a safe environment for our associates and customers. This includes auditing, record-keeping, training, and recommending improvements across the business. This position will also perform duties to ensure compliance to OSHA Standards, the OSHA Process Safety Management, and EPA Risk Management Program at the WBC.

Principal Duties:

  • Ensure OSHA and safety behavioral programs are established for WBC and evaluate compliance to those programs through conducting regular audits of operations, identifying gaps in execution of safety standards, and reporting findings to management. In partnership with the Senior Safety Professional and WBC Management, build corrective action plans and support execution to ensure continuous improvement in safety.

  • Manage compliance calendar for the OSHA Process Safety Management, SARA Title III Reporting, and EPA Risk Management Program for the WBC. Partner with the WBC Maintenance Manager to ensure compliance with the 13 elements of the Process Safety Management/Risk Management regulations and that all reporting requirements are met when required.

  • Provide input on content for OSHA safety standards and safety training programs across the company. Perform OSHA training as needed for WBC and Facilities.

  • Oversee regulatory record keeping for all OSHA compliance work across the company including monitoring training records for OSHA, coordinating training across Corporate, WBC and Facilities, managing all documentation of programs and processes required by OSHA, and ensuring compliance around recordable incident record keeping and posting.

  • Provide support to Senior Safety Professional during OSHA inspections and gather information for response to OSHA complaints. Ensures any follow-up to citations are addressed.

  • Conduct root cause reviews on high-risk worker’s compensation cases and partner with store or WBC leadership and Senior Safety Professional to make recommendations for preventing future incidents.

  • Assist Senior Safety Professional maintain and develop Safety audit questions that are conducted by our internal and third -party auditors.

  • Shadow store audit team to calibrate, train and answer safety questions.

  • Manage the emergency procedure plans at Corporate and WBC to ensure safe evacuation of the sites in the event of a fire or ammonia alarm or other emergency evacuation. Follow-up with Facilities or WBC Maintenance after drills to see where there are opportunities for improvement.

  • Participate in benchmarking similar companies to help identify opportunities for Wawa.

  • Represent Safety at cross-functional meetings across the company on an as needed basis.

  • Support safety contractor programs as needed for Facilities or Construction.

  • Perform other tasks as needed to support safety across the company.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in safety or related field preferred

  • Knowledge of OSHA regulations

  • Current OSHA certificatiopreferred

  • Experience through education, internship or working in EHS role preferred
