Corewell Health Director Pharmacy - Taylor, Trenton and Wayne in Wayne, Michigan

Job Summary

Provides direction and support for the coordination, integration, and analysis for pharmacy services at respective entities. Leads complex initiatives and diverse teams, delivering innovative solutions to reinforce a safer medication use cycle. Strategizes and collaborates with health system leadership at all levels to leverage pharmacy expertise to improve quality, safety, patient experience, and financial outcomes. Converts organizational vision and strategy into action-oriented goals and initiatives for teams. Assists with the development and implementation of a vision and strategic plan for pharmacy services. Assumes 24-hour accountability for the overall delivery of pharmaceutical care at respective entities.

Essential Functions

  • Collaborates closely with departmental directors to prioritize initiatives from organizational vision and develops action-oriented goals. Uses organizational knowledge gained by connecting people and teams to drive changes effectively.

  • Responsible for ensuring pharmacy operations support safe medication use. Coordinates with pharmacy, nursing, informatics, and provider leadership to continuously improve processes related to the preparation, receipt, distribution, storage, dispensation, and monitoring of medications. Optimizes use of information systems and technology to support clinical operations.

  • Oversees departmental strategies and objectives. Understands market forces and engages in complex analytical and conceptual thinking to identify opportunities for growth. Develops capital and operating budgets for the department. Routinely monitors, manages, and controls those budgets with a focus on plans for productivity improvement.

  • Overall responsibility for ensuring medication use cycle processes comply with applicable regulations and standards, including The Joint Commission, Board of Pharmacy, and Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services.

  • Aligns departmental processes and resources to advance organizational initiatives. Demonstrates success in focusing, aligning, and effectively developing individuals and teams. Ensures services are provided in accordance with State and Federal regulations, organizational policy, and accreditation and compliance requirements.

  • Directs pharmacy services through the management and direction of both human and financial resources allocated to the department while maintaining and enhancing the revenue generating capabilities and technological advancements of the pharmacy department. Improves delivery of pharmacy services through effective development and support of pharmacy teams. Actively engages with respective teams to empower and connect cross-functional teams to deliver results.

  • Develops capital and operating budgets for the department; routinely monitors, manages and controls those budgets with a focus on plans for productivity improvement.

  • Ensures that processes and services are continuously monitored for quality, cost effectiveness, and efficiency. Engages in process and quality improvement activities. Makes and implements recommendations to improve operational efficiency and to implement new services for areas of responsibility. Maintains a safe and clean environment and actively participates in safety initiatives.

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor's Degree Pharmacy or Doctor of Pharmacy degree from an accredited College of Pharmacy

  • 5 years of relevant experience Working in a large healthcare system

  • 3 years of relevant experience Pharmacy leadership

  • Successful completion of American Society of Health System Pharmacy accredited PGY1 program or equivalent experience.

  • LIC-Clinical Pharmacist - State of Michigan Pharmacy - 90 Days required

  • LIC-Pharmacist Controlled Substance - State of Michigan Pharmacy - 90 Days required

Preferred

  • Master's Degree Business Administration, Healthcare Administration or other related field

  • Successful completion of American Society of Health System Pharmacy accredited PGY2 program or equivalent experience.

  • Experience at a system that provides transplant services.

  • Experience with the design and improvement of medication use cycle, including procurement, delivery, administration, and monitoring.

  • Experience working with multiple sites
