DESCRIPTION OF WORK
In this position, you will oversee subordinate officers, ensuring their duties comply with policies, procedures, and regulations related to the care, custody, and control of inmates within the institution. Your responsibilities will include planning, organizing, assigning, and monitoring the duties of correctional officers. You will perform inspections of all areas within your assigned zone to ensure officers remain vigilant and effective in their roles and complete the daily inspection reports for commissioned officers. You will also manage officer assignments to maximize effectiveness with minimal personnel and conduct semi-annual and annual performance evaluations. Additionally, you will interview potential subordinate staff, provide training for new staff, and ensure trainees are appropriately utilized according to their training phase.
You will oversee daily schedules and facility operations, including security, food service, plant maintenance, medical services, and recreational activities. Your duties will also involve conducting daily tours of inmate housing units, addressing any issues, and performing periodic inmate counts. You will monitor surveillance of institutional grounds, buildings, and inmate work sites for any irregularities in behavior. Any changes in inmate personality, demeanor, or program participation should be reported. You will participate in counseling inmates on personal adjustment issues and maintain accurate records and reports regarding inmate activities and incidents.

Work Schedule and Additional Information: Full-time employment Work schedule is to be determined. Selected applicant will work a 40-hour work week with rotating days off. This position is eligible for retirement benefits at age 50 or 55. Salary:In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable. Selected applicants who are new to employment within the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $52,306.00 (before taxes). REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY QUALIFICATIONS Minimum Experience and Training Requirements: One year as a Corrections Officer 2 (Commonwealth job title); or Four years of experience in corrections security work in a Pennsylvania state or county corrections facility. (Note: Persons seeking employment under this option will be required to successfully complete, or have completed, a training program conducted by the Department of Corrections.)
Other Requirements: Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA is required. PA residency requirement is currently waived for this title. You must be able to perform essential job functions.
